THE PUBLIC
SHOULD NOT PAY JAMES!

“James,” who I believe is a paid public servant, sent several comments into this site asking why the public has a right and a need to know why there were multiple police and canine units searching Lake Grubb for hours this past Sunday.
We need to stop paying James – now! There is no link. There is no law. It is common sense and human decency and part of the job for people being paid by the public to protect and serve them and keep them safe. Find another line of work, James! The public should not be paying you!

5-21 UPDATE

The question of protect and serve will come later today. The below is one of the most awful things I have seen recently. What about the Lancaster Police and their use of force?
Please check back later today.

A DUTY TO PROTECT & SERVE!

To add some levity to this story:

Meanwhile, a nude swimmer was seen patiently doing the dog paddle hoping that no one took her clothing while doing the search

As I suspected, you are unable to present a legal or logical foundation for your assertion. Furthermore, when you were unable to present a logical, reasonable, or legal response to my reasonable questions, you reverted to a personal attack. Shame on you. Your resort to a personal attack, rather than presenting a reasoned response to my questions demonstrates that your assertions are without foundation. Any reasonable person would expect that you would respond to reasonable questions with answers based on reason, rather than attacking the person who asked the question and threatening their employment. Shame on you.

A lot of PDs have dropped the Protect and Serve motto.

Protect and serve as a police duty is a myth. The police are policy enforcers in the legal system.

Winnebago and Town of Castle Rock vs. Gonzales, the supreme court has ruled that police agencies are not obligated to provide protection of citizens. In other words, police are well within their rights to pick and choose when to intervene to protect the lives and property of others — even when a threat is apparent.

And that is just one reason why police reform is needed and why police do not need every little toy they can get in their overinflated budgets. If you are going to use cameras, tasers, tag readers, radar, etc., arbitrarily, then you have too many choices to make as to how best to do nothing. That money is better spent on the community as a whole. Build a youth or rec center and give kids something to do instead of building police depots into monoliths run by overpaid, underworked people biding their time until handed the kind of pension and retirement benefits the rest of us can only dream of.

Philly, Lancaster and Allentown remain at the top of ZIP codes with most new COVID-19 infections Headline on Pennlive. Why nothing in LNP?
