STEAK & LOBSTER?

From the LNP article linked to in this morning’s post.

LNP moved this story off their homepage early this morning because, of course, Mayor Sorace got them millions of dollars for their Marriott Hotel so they can’t be too critical of her! Let’s see if there’s a follow-up by LNP!
Every cent of the $4,064.77 should be paid back. So the steak and lobster jumped out at Patrick Hopkins? But what LNP doesn’t tell us is what did he do about it? Did he demand the employees pay it back? If not, why not?
And what is later explained to be the retirement party for Randy Patterson? But Patterson didn’t fully retire. In fact, in December of 2019, former Mayor Art Morris complained to council that the city was keeping Patterson on as a consultant. See below and click here for the original. So how much has been billed for Randy Patterson? Stay tuned...

*******

THE HEAT IS ON?

“While every taxpayer dollar is important, these types of expenses are not what has caused the City’s financial challenges and eliminating these expenses completely will have no material impact on the City’s fiscal condition,” she [Mayor Danene Sorace] said.
From the LNP article, “City expenses show thousands in overcharged meals, parties and catered meetings; Mayor says not the source of budget woes,” (click here).
Wow! That is unbelievable arrogance from Mayor Sorace!
Please check back later today.

Free water meters then the water bill doubled, tripled, quadrupled. What the hell is the city doing with this windfall revenue? We know they are still ignoring the EPA. Oh, wait, my bad public art ain’t for free. Is the city still having ugly bright colored bars on the new library/parking garage brought to us via Miami FL at some obscene amount of money? Get rid of it and save $500,000+. I’ll consult for $20.00 an hour and save the city a boatload of money.

  2. smh says:

But we got free water meters!

True Mayor Dickina. But the money comes from the same source.

  5. Benton Harbor says:

Mayor says not the source of budget woes,” Of course it is It shows a total disregard for fiscal responsibility. It shows they don’t care. It is the only thing that shows trickle down working When you have corruption at the top it trickles down

Wow, I can’t believe LNP published this. They’ve been giving Sorace and Hopkins so much cover over the past few years it seemed like they were untouchable. Agree, if walker keeps digging there are major stories on MAW and there other contracting practices.

    Hoping for more!

  7. nope says:

how about before we address revenue challenges, we address:
The City Council doesn’t review nor approve bid or contracts which is against the law.
    MAW
Overruns, change orders, and no bid contracts.
Exorbitant legal bills due to inept management.

As this article shows its not a getting money problem, its a spending money problem.
