JUST HIRE THEM!
From the December 16th, 2019 column by LNP executive editor Tom Murse, “Can an old newspaper learn new tricks? Absolutely,” (click here).
I commented on the above before stating LNP was 30 to 40 years behind the times. But it’s worse. This is just insulting!
Why do they need a fellowship program for “emerging minority reporters?” Just hire them! They’re coming out of journalism schools everywhere! Why a special program? What in the world?
And why is Meko writing about private wells? Why don’t you have her in the courthouse reporting on the blatant racism there? Unbelievable.
** Sadler [former Lancaster City Police Chief Keith Sadler] said police here are trying to recruit more minority police officers. Of his 144-member force, 10 are African-Americans, and 11 are Latinos.
He said police have gone into churches, started a Police Athletic League, and soon will restart a police cadet program.
We applaud these initiatives.
From the September 28th, 2014 LNP editorial, “We must confront the issue of race in Lancaster,” (click here).
I do not believe a minority (other than a woman) has been sworn into the force since this editorial over six years ago and yet LNP stays mum. Something is not working!
* when Citizen Complaints are investigated by an independent panel and not the LCPD itself I will take these efforts seriously…it is difficult to understand how it makes sense that an entity that receives a complaint or concern decides its own outcome
This excellent comment is posted on Lancaster Online under the story linked to below about the community police working group.
