    A BUSY WEEK!

    May 2013

    – On Thursday, May 16th – A protest in front of the Lancaster Police Station on the one year anniversary of the unsolved, brutal murder of 83-year-old Erma Kaylor in her West Vine Street home.  I will also have a petition you can sign requesting the State Attorney General Office’s assistance in solving the sixteen unsolved murders in the last six and one-half years.

     – On Friday, May 17th – A protest in front of City Hall for the sixteen unsolved murders and numerous unsolved major crimes under Mayor J. Richard Gray.  I will have the same petition as above at this event that you can sign.

     –  On Saturday, May 18th – A protest in front of the Lancaster Newspaper Office for their blatant discrimination in hiring and a petition you can sign requesting the State Human Relations Commission investigate them.  I will also be working on a petition regarding the convention center/hotel.

          More details will follow.

     A LONG WAY TO GO?

Sad to say, such attempts are still necessary today — 150 years after the Emancipation Proclamation and 50 years after passage of the Civil Rights Act and Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream” speech.
And did we say we have an African-American president?
We’ve come a long way, but clearly incidents such as this suggest we have a long way to go.
The end of today’s New Era editorial not yet on line, “Racist, anti-gay acts on campus.”

How dare you, Lancaster Newspapers?  How dare you?
The above photo of the truck was taken yesterday in the parking lot of the Columbia Turkey Hill and is courtesy of the “Must See Pics an Vids” Facebook page.  What message is this person trying to send and why?
I’ll call the garage and try to find out!

     A BUSY MAY!

My initial response to Lancaster Newspaper’s Executive Editor Ernie Schreiber (see below) is simply to tell you my plans for May:

     SCHREIBER: FLAT-OUT LIAR!

My conclusion: We have a way to go in convincing the community that we are striving to be fair.
That said, I am eager to hear your assessment of our efforts to improve local reporting and fairness.

Congratulations to Dave Porter and Tornado Alley!  Today is their 10th anniversary!

I didn’t think there was anything possibly worse than seeing Marv Adams’ face staring back at me from the Sunday News until yesterday – when it happened with this picture of Ernie Schreiber.  Send this lying, dangerous hypocrite back into retirement - now!

    LNP:  DESPICABLE!

The formula that any good journalist follows to get the complete story behind a news event is “5 Ws and 1 H” — who, what, where, when, why and how.
With respect to the Jerry Sandusky “news story” broadcast on Tuesday on NBC’s “Today” show, the points are covered, with one glaring exception.
         Why, NBC?
Oh, this is so special!  The New Era is going to tell everyone how to be a “good journalist.”  They even use the “d” word (the editorial is not currently online):
…So, if NBC can’t explain publicly why it pursued the story, that leaves the only other possibility: a ratings grab, an appeal to the lowest common denominator to attract viewers.
If that’s the case, that’s despicable.
The Sandusky “interview” was a wasted effort by a network that once prided itself on its investigative reporting.
This racist newspaper, with its failed $171 million dollar publicly funded convention center it rammed down our throats, this newspaper that doesn’t want to pay its school taxes, this newspaper that doesn’t cover an unconstitutional jury selection process, discrimination on all levels of city and county hiring (not to mention the Lancaster Newspapers themselves, of course), 16 unsolved murders under Mayor Gray and too many major unsolved crimes tp count and a City Police Chief who has been publicly accused by his ex-wife of abusing her for years, has the audacity to talk about investigative reporting, ratings grabs and appeals to the lowest common denominator?
The Lancaster Newespapers are the absolute lowest common denominator.  They deserve the “despicable” word!

    CORRUPTION AND FAVORS
    BY ERNIE SCHREIBER!

Police charged a Warwick Township man Thursday with drug delivery after he exchanged drugs with another young man, who later died of an overdose from a variety of drugs.
Ryan C. Brubaker, 20, of Lititz, faces charges stemming from the drug exchange in September.
Brubaker is the son of state Sen. Mike Brubaker, a Republican from Warwick Township.
The opening sentences from the article on the front-page of the Intell/New Era on April 12, 2012 -  click here for “Sen. Brubaker’s son faces charges.”
A politician’s son being arrested and charged with a crime is news.  The Lancaster Newspapers know it and they ran the above article with a picture of Ryan Brubaker, who has since tragically died of a drug overdose.
But long time House of Representatives member, Mike Sturla, got a pass when his son was arrested recently - not once, but twice.  Why?  Who knew the convention center/hotel project could have tentacles this long?  What an absolute disgrace!
This is why every journalism/media code of ethics in this country states a news organization should never get monetarily involved in a project like this.  You are seeing how deep the corruption and the favors run.  And LNP Executive Editor Ernie Schreiber is leading the charge.  He is the worst of all hypocrites and a true danger to every resident of Lancaster County.

     WHOM DOES HE SERVE?

The Lancaster Newspapers gave Mayor Gray the camera and microphone to campaign for a third term in office (click here).  Unbelievable!  Of course, the Lancaster Newspapers  love him because he supports their hotel/convention center and Gray gets that into his spiel for them.
The reporter never asks a question, by the Mayor’s opening two sentences he already knew the questions that were going to be “asked,” and they give him seven uninterrupted minutes to look into the camera and campaign.
The transcript of the video on his goals for Lancaster is below.  This is extremely important and it is not a long read.  Please note the numbering is mine and in the first line of #8, the word “non-funded” is in brackets because I am not sure of the word he actually used.
I will have much more to say on these in the days to come.  Tomorrow, my much delayed “Best in Lancaster” list.  Please also note the community meeting in this morning’s post below.
    ***********************************

What do I want to accomplish? I sat down and thought about it.

    1.  First, I’d like to provide an atmosphere where large and small businesses can flourish and create jobs and opportunities for our residents.
Often people say, well you spend too much time on trying to attract businesses and whatnot. Businesses coming here mean jobs here, mean the opportunity for people to work, mean the ability of walkable urbanity.  They can walk to work and they can walk to their jobs. And the hotel/convention center is a perfect example of it. The last time I checked, 70% of the people that work there lived in the city. And it was a handshake agreement we had but they followed it.

    2.  We want to provide new avenues for new business people to enter the economy and realize their potential.
Start-up businesses, small businesses are really the backbone of this city though we have the Fulton Banks and the Lancaster General Hospital – the thing that makes the city of Lancaster great both in the neighborhoods and downtown as far as businesses are concerned, are the small businesses.

    3.  We want to continue to promote the wonderful diversity in the city that makes us unique, interesting and intellectually challenging.

    4.  We want to continue to improve the public physical assets of the city – the parks, the schools, the infrastructure and the arts. The more aesthetically beautiful a city is and structurally sound the better people feel about themselves, their community and their neighbors.

    5.  We want to continue to improve neighborhood life through rigorous code enforcement. We want to continue to prosecute slum landlords – those that would come in and exploit our residents.

    6.  We want to assure that the public gets the full benefit of each tax dollar spent. And my reputation in my office among my co-workers is I’m cheap. And it’s a reputation I like, really. And I am cheap.

    7.  We want to continue to improve the efficiency of our public safety through more productive use of our police, fire and public works people and that’s a continuing, on-going thing.

    8.  Finally, I want to continue to fight at the state level for the relief from [non-funded] mandates and procedures that work against the interest of the taxpayers. We really, ah, sometimes I feel like we’re not represented in Harrisburg though certainly our senator and our state representative do their best. You wonder who actually talks about the people who pay the freight – the people in the municipalities.

  • AND WHERE’S THE VIDEO?

Posted on January 3rd, 2013 Becky 15 comments

    SADLER, GRAY, STEINMAN

    SWITZER & UMSTEAD!

    Harry Rodriguez-Colon

The first five in my worst of the worst for 2012 are below. The remaining five and two honorary mentions will come tomorrow. I apologize as this is a project that is taking much longer than I anticipated.
The good list will now come on Saturday and then it’s time to finally move into 2013!
Since there are three members of the police force in today’s list and two to come tomorrow, I wanted to highlight this LNP story from today – “Robber gets money, cigarettes at city grocery store” – click here.
I am told there is a camera directly outside this store. Where is the video, Lancaster Police? Why hasn’t it been released to the public so they can help in identifying this extremely dangerous individual? There will be much more on this in the days to come.
Make an arrest and do it now, Lancaster Police, before he shoots and kills someone!

     1. Police Chief Keith Sadler – The big Chief inspector from Philly turned out to be a fraud – and we learned this year why he left Philly in the first place! They don’t want him back but tough! Get the hell out, Sadler!
You’ve done nothing to diversify the force and you’ve done nothing about rampant crime in Lancaster except try to cover it up. A man with no previous criminal history and arrested for allegedly picking up a wallet someone left in a convenience store, committed suicide in a police holding cell because no one was watching the video feed and a 71-year-old man was in very critical condition after being arrested for “public drunkenness” and “falling” in the police station. Those two items alone would be enough to get you fired in any other city. Add to that the nine unsolved murders since you were sworn into office and the numerous unsolved, major crimes in the city during the last six months alone, and a totally incompetent, arrogant band of detectives and you are need to be toast and the sooner the better. What an absolute disgrace and sad legacy you will leave behind in Lancaster!

    2. Mayor J. Richard Gray – The big defense attorney lied to the public about the convention center to get into office in the first place and now the word is he wants a third term. It’s not going to happen! You have failed to improve the quality of anyone’s life except for the Lancaster Newspapers and the “arts” crowd in Lancaster.
You thought you were hiring a big, tough police chief from Philly and that ended your involvement with the police and you could sit back and concentrate on the arts and a “city authentic.“ You were hoodwinked and you refuse to accept the obvious. It’s past time to accept it, fire him and find someone decent to fill the position.
It’s also time for you to publicly apologize to the family and friends of 83-year-old Erma Kaylor and everyone living in the 200 block of West Vine Street for your total lack of concern and the failure of the police to arrest her killer. It’s also well past time for you to bring in help to solve her murder and the murder of Olga-Sanchez-Reyes at a minimum (see the permanent box at the top of this site).

    3. Peggy Steinman – she and her family have left a trail of blatant racism and discrimination in Lancaster that has been bolstered by the Lancaster Newspapers for years. Obviously, this can no longer be tolerated and she needs to apologize and resign immediately.   Ultimately, the Steinman name and legacy in Lancaster will be terrible.

    4. Kent Switzer – This man who is paid $95,261 annually, is the Captain of a Detective Division that cannot solve any murders, arsons, shootings, stabbings, robberies or burglaries. In fact, in December of this year he just decided to lie to the Lancaster Newspapers about the number of unsolved murders in Lancaster (click here for “HOLD SWITZER ACCOUNTABLE!”).
A commenter said this under the article:
I was thinking the exact same thing about the numbers Switzer put forward in that article!! No wonder so many homicides are going unsolved! The cops don’t even know how many there are.
This would not be tolerated in any other city. Fire this pathetic joke of a detective and do it today!

    5.  Todd Umstead – this detective and Police Spokesman has told so many outrageous lies that he would have been fired by any other city years ago. I could point to countless cover-ups by this man, but will limit it to one unconscionable comment he made in June of this year regarding Harry Rodriguez-Colon (click here for “WHO BEAT THIS MAN? – 4“):
The injuries were so bad, officials said, that officers took him to Lancaster General Hospital before he was remanded to Lancaster County Prison.
He received stitches and other treatment before being arraigned and taken to the prison.
Investigators still weren’t sure Friday how Rodriguez-Colon, 35, was injured.
“There was no crime reported,” city police Lt. Todd Umstead said.
So no charges have been filed.
If this detective, whom we pay $86,358 annually, could not see that a crime had been committed, then he should be fired immediately because he’s an idiot and a liar. And for the Lancaster Newspapers to accept his disgusting reply is journalistically and ethically intolerable.
There will be more on that tomorrow when the top two editors of the Lancaster Newspapers are added to the top ten worst list.

    * The editorial, “2013 Wish List,” is here.

    RUN LNP OUT OF TOWN!

They are a week late.  What they are asking for from “local officials”  can only come from Santa, not the County Commissioners or the impecunious City of Lancaster.
The Lancaster Newspapers ignored warnings and ruthlessly  rammed the project down the throats of a skeptical public who, when polled, 78% objected to any government guarantees.
As the Convention Center goes, so goes the Marriott Hotel, ‘co-owned’ by Penn Square Partners, in turn owned through subsidiaries of the Lancaster Newspapers, Inc. and S. Dale High’s Group.
    Today’s Newslanc.com (click here).
Go get them, Robert!  This is worth the read!  The Intell/New Era has the unmitigated gall to list their own convention center/hotel as number one on their “Wish List” for 2013.
Run this newspaper out of town!  That’s at the top of my “Wish List” for 2013!

  • BY LNP AND MAYOR GRAY!

Posted on December 18th, 2012 Becky 2 comments

     THE ULTIMATE BETRAYAL!

Ernie Schreiber                            Mayor Gray                               Marv Adams

Over the past four years, we’ve experienced significant success in revitalizing our downtown and improving the quality of life in our neighborhoods.
Mayor Gray in his “Mayor’s Message” on the city website (click here).
The Lancaster Newspapers and Mayor Gray forced the convention center/hotel project on the people of Lancaster City and County.
Now Executive LNP editor, Ernie Schreiber, called then Commissioner Dick Shellenberger the “Angel of Death” because he questioned the financing and impact on the citizens of the county.
Now Print Editor, Marv Adams, told us it could not fail – in fact - he compared the likelihood of its failure to a huge volcano erupting in Pequea.
Mayor Gray lied about it to be elected. He told everyone he would establish a committee to study the feasibility of the “project” if elected – and the day after he was elected he went back on his word.
They called anyone against the project “naysayers.” LNP and Mayor Gray made repeated professional and personal attacks against then Commissioner Molly Henderson because she questioned the financing and long-term impact of the “project” on the citizens.
Now, several years later, it has come full circle and become a true financial disaster. When that happened, Marv Adams ran front-page stories and editorials in the Sunday News for months questioning whether the county hotel and motel owners were paying their taxes. The Sunday News filed a Right-To-Know request in a direct conflict of interest because their employer owns 50 percent of the competing Marriott Hotel.
The Lancaster Newspapers have repeatedly and blatantly violated every journalism code of ethics in this country for years.
And now comes the ultimate betrayal: they do not want to pay the taxes assessed on their ten downtown properties in the heart of Lancaster. They told us for years the convention center would increase property values and they are secretly saying that’s not true.
They want their current assessments reduced by 20 percent, meaning the School District of Lancaster will lose over $50,000 in income annually.
Their request has apparently been negotiated and brokered in backroom deals away from the public eye (LNP certainly has not reported on it) and the 20 percent figure has been approved by high-ranking city and county officials in secret.
It is expected the School Board will officially accept the reduction tonight because they have been told it will cost the Board more than the $50,000 they will lose to fight the Lancaster Newspapers in court.
This is the ultimate betrayal – to date - by the Lancaster Newspapers and Mayor Gray of the citizens of the city and county they are supposed to “serve.”

Click here for “SDOL COULD LOSE OVER $50,000 A YEAR!” and there will be much more tomorrow.

  • * UPDATED – IMAGE VERSUS REALITY?

Posted on December 16th, 2012 Becky 7 comments

    *LNP: HURTING KIDS,
    HURTING LANCASTER!

Also from today’s Sunday News, Business Section, page D-7, “Government Calendar,” there is this (italitics are mine):
The School District of Lancaster Board of Directors will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday in Recital Hall at J.P. McCaskey High School, 445 N. Reservoir St.  Among the agenda items:
… – Finance and operations management: approval of change orders for phase I projects; approval of PLANCON Part G, Martin (kindergarten through grade eight) school; approval of Lancaster Newspapers Inc. tax assessment.
LIP News has learned that the Lancaster Newspapers want a 20 percent reduction in their assessments of 10 buildings. This would reduce the income to the School District of Lancaster by over $50,000 a year.
This is unbelievable! There will be much more tomorrow.

    SEVEN MONTHS TODAY!

Today is the 7 month anniversary of the unsolved, horrific murder of 83-year-old Erma Kaylor in her West Vine Street home.
Mayor Gray is quoted on the front page of today’s Sunday News saying the following:
Like many Americans, Mayor Rick Gray found it hard to sleep Friday night, after hearing about the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut.
As he struggled, in vain, to comprehend the scale of the violence — six women, and 20 first-graders, ages 6 and 7 ( babies, really) gunned down in their classrooms — he kept thinking about his own grandchildren.
How disresptful to Kaylor and all the other victims of unsolved murders, stabbings and shootings in the city of Lancaster!  Mayor Gray should be thinking about his own grandmothers and Christmas less than 10 days away.

From page P-1 of today’s “Perspective” section of the Sunday News.

Yes, we do deserve the image.  Stop worrying about what visitors see and start cleaning up the crime in the city!  Start working on the quality of life for the residents of Lancaster – then you won’t have to worry about “image” so much.
Why don’t you start by arresting the killer of Erma Kaylor, Mayor Gray, and if you’re police can’t handle it, bring in outside help.
What a disgrace this man is to the City of Lancaster!
    Please check back later today.

  • A MAYOR AND A MAYOR WANNA BE!

Posted on December 14th, 2012 Becky 11 comments

     DRUNKEN SANTAS?

As to fears of public intoxication and drinking and driving, I will say this: We have encouraged people to get rooms at downtown hotels — further supporting local businesses and encouraging people to take cabs — more local businesses. The bars will be extremely crowded that night and most likely it will be difficult to get one or two drinks, let alone enough to get intoxicated. And, if someone does get intoxicated Pennsylvania is a Dram Law State. That means there is first person (the drinker), second person (the bar) and third person (server) liability. So, if an individual drinks too much — they are responsible.
Part of a Letter to the Editor today from Pete Ruggieri about tonight’s “Santa Stumble.”
Well, the editors fail to mention that Pete is running for Mayor but you have to love his argument – the bars will be so busy you won’t be able to buy a drink!  Yeah, okay Pete!  And I love the “Dram Law” explanation!  What’s your point?
And in yet another conflict of interest, The Marriott Hotel, which is 50 percent owned by the Lancaster Newspapers, is giving a discount on rooms for the “Stumble.”  So LNP is benefiting by having 600 plus drunken Santas roaming downtown Lancaster!
This should be quite an event and I want to remind the police, the Lancaster Newspapers, the “Stumblers” and the public about this dreadful and still unexplained or followed-up on police press release, “Public Drunkenness Arrest, Subject Injured in Fall,” (click here).
    ADIOS!  AGAIN!
Tucked away in Gray’s proposed budget for 2013 are pay increases for two department heads — Randy Patterson, economic development and neighborhood revitalization director, and Public Works Director Charlotte Katzenmoyer.
They aren’t the modest raises, if any, that are being given out in the private sector these days. They aren’t the cost-of-living raises that state lawmakers are given — and have refused.
Patterson’s salary would jump a whopping 12 percent, to $120,500. Katzenmoyer’s also would go to $120,500, a 5 percent hike in her case.
The mayor, it appears, wants to play Santa Claus to a select few city employees.
From today’s New Era editorial, “Gray plays Santa for a select few.”
LNP finally gets something correct.  As I said a few days ago, adios to Patterson and Katzenmoyer!  Leave already!
     IT’S NOT FAIR!
My home was assessed for what I paid for it, but when I looked up other people homes in the county like the chief of police…his was tax assessed at $193,800 when he paid $275,400. I looked at random homes and a lot of them were assessed a couple of thousand lower than what they paid. How is that even fair? That sounds shady to me to cause the picture of the news building looks pretty big.
This comment in under yesterday’s story.
Yes, the LNP building is huge and it’s commercial which is a far different animal than a home.
Thanks for writing and there will be more later today.

    THE LANCASTER NEWSPAPERS
    ARE ROBBER BARONS!

LIP News has learned that the Lancaster Newspapers have filed three appeals in the Court of Common Pleas to reduce their tax property assessments on 10 of their properties.
They originally appealed the assessments in September of 2010, were refused and those properties are still under appeal.
The School District of Lancaster stands to lose over $50,000 dollars a year if revised assessments are approved.
The properties involved are as follows with their current assessment listed - please note that all of the properties are owned by “Lancaster Newspapers, Inc,” except for 4 West King which is owned by “Steinman & Steinman, Inc.”:

    Property                Current Assesment
    4 W. King                $   863,400
    8 W. King                  1,680,500

  • FROM CHIEF OF STAFF, PAT BROGAN

      CHILDISH,

    UNSYMPATHETIC GAMES!

It was my 13th call.  I promised a family member of Erma Kaylor that I would call until I spoke to Mayor Gray and asked him why the Lancaster Police did not accept District Attorney Craig Stedman’s offer of assistance in charging and arresting her killer.
I had politely left a message everyday prior.  On November 15th, Pat Brogan, the Mayor’s Chief of Staff, answered the phone.    She said the Mayor was out of town and knowing full well why I was calling, asked if could she assist me.
I asked the one question I had called so many times to ask and left in detailed messages, and her response was a question, “You live in Philadelphia?”
I wasn’t going to play childish games.  “Yes,” I said, “and please advise why in the world Mayor Gray and the Lancaster Police would not accept an offer of assistance to arrest the killer of an 83-year-old woman?”
She thought for a minute and responded with, “How do you know they haven’t?”
“Because the DA told me they haven’t,” I immediately responded.
That seemed to take her aback and she thought for another minute before she replied, “We do not comment on ongoing investigations.”  And she repeated it a second time.
I was simply stunned, said “Goodbye” and hung up.
There is no reason Pat Brogan should be receiving a paycheck from the citizens of Lancaster.  Absolutely no reason at all.
There will be much more tomorrow.

     AND A DOG!

The mayor [Lancaster Mayor Richard Gray] says if Buchahan Park is fortunate enough to be selected, he will hold a community meeting before any changes are made.
WGAL’s Jenelle Stelson at the end of the video piece in their story, “Dog park plans get mixed reviews from neighbors,” (click here).
Frankly, Mayor Dick, we’ve heard that line from you before – and guess what – you lied!  A $150 million dollar lie!
Please check back later today for all things frankly Gray…

  • ** UPDATED – HE KNOWS ABOUT “POOR RESULTS!”

Posted on November 27th, 2012 Becky 7 comments

**  I ran out of time today – I’m working on a project – but I did want to note that whoever designed the monstrosity of a rack pictured below in front of the train station should be fired along with all those who approved it!  As for Mayor Goober Gray’s quote, I’ll come back to that tomorrow – think $171 million dollar white elephant and Gray’s huge lie!

Note to emailer:  I received your email regarding taped phone calls.  Please give me a few days and I’ll be back to you.  Note to letter writer: I received your letter about the affair!  Not sure there’s much I can do but it does relate to my project in a strange way.  Let me think about it.

I will also follow-up on Evil Pete’s cruise tomorrow (the word is he’s been having cherries!) and a question:  If you see someone stone cold crazy on the internet, is it your moral responsiblity to tell them to see a psychiatrist immediately?

     GOOBER GRAY SPEAKS!

“It’s hard to believe that we could spend that much public money and get such poor results,” Lancaster Mayor Rick Gray said Monday.
From today’s article, “Buses cause traffic woes at Amtrak station,” (click here).
Oh, that is rich!  That is so rich!

The top “photo” today on Philly.com with the headline, “Good time to fire Reid.”  Can we fire Goober Gray as well?
There will be a post later today!

  • GIVING BACK?

    AN UNDISGUISED AD!

Since his retirement, Frank Fox has sought to give back.
The opening sentence from today’s story, “New restaurant/wine bar planned for West King Street location,” (click here).
Fox is opening a restaurant that will charge between $20 and $30 a dinner, according to the story – how is that giving back and to whom?  Maybe it’s giving back to the Lancaster Newspapers who own the building at 38 West King Street and will be his landlord?
What a slanted, ridiculous story by the same reporter who always tell us things are going great at the convention center.  This isn’t journalism – this is an unfoxy, undisguised ad!  This is shameful!
    Please check back later today.

    LNP: FLAT-OUT LIES!

For many years, some hotel owners and some Republicans have questioned the public-private partnerships that have sustained Lancaster City and County during the recession and its aftermath.
It takes no brilliant mind to spot the differences between Lancaster and surrounding cities. Harrisburg is in bankruptcy. Reading has climbed from poorest to the second-poorest city in the nation. York has no vibrant downtown to compare with that here.
We take no pleasure in recounting the difficulties of sister cities and counties. But the fact remains that intelligent public/private partnerships have kept our community a economically healthier and safer place.
Part of that success comes from the convention center and businesses that it has spawned. Part of that success comes from the county’s vibrant tourist industry.
From today’s New Era editorial, “Martin’s plan doesn’t add up,” (not currently online).
Unbelievable!  Obama wins a second term and all the New Era can do is write this self-serving piece of crap and flat-out lies about the disaster of a project they have a 50% stake in!
Safer?  That’s a lie!  What businesses has it spawned?  A Subway Restaurant?
Run this disgusting, lying, self-serving, unethical newspaper out of town!
    Please check back later today.

    LNP:  PUTTING THE
    PUBLIC IN DANGER

                   Ernie Schreiber                   Marv Adams

    5. It must serve as an independent monitor of power

Journalism has an unusual capacity to serve as watchdog over those whose power and position most affect citizens. The Founders recognized this to be a rampart against despotism when they ensured an independent press; courts have affirmed it; citizens rely on it. As journalists, we have an obligation to protect this watchdog freedom by not demeaning it in frivolous use or exploiting it for commercial gain.
PEW Excellence in Journalism Progect: “Pinciples of Journalsim,” (click here).
For years now, I have stated that the Lancaster Newspapers have violated every journalism code of ethics in this country by their monetary involvement in the convention center/hotel.
But they have taken this to a shockingly new low.  In order to try and sustain their financial disaster in the heart of downtown, they are now purposely not reporting on crimes in the city.  They don’t want a Baby and Toddler Expo goer to see a headline that says, ”Man shot in City.”  It might scare them and worse, drive off their repeat business and scare other conventions from coming here as well.
So they are failing to report vital information the citizens of Lancaster absolutely need to know.  They need to know there is a shooter in their neighborhood.  They need to know immediately that someone was shot so anyone who saw or heard anything can contact the police.  They need the description of the gunman if it is available as someone might recognize the shooter and everyone can keep their eyes out for someone matching the description.
What the Lancaster Newspapers are doing is not only a complete ethical failure but it is a total betrayal of the public trust. They are putting the public in danger.  This is unconscionable and unbelievable.
It is time the Lancaster Newspapers are run out of town.  Ernie Schreiber and Marv Adams are not journalists.  I’m not even sure they are human beings.

    LNP IS NOT
    REPORTING CRIME
    TO PROTECT THEIR
    CONVENTION CENTER!

This is beyond despicable.  Click here for “Baby and Toddler Expo returns to Lancaster County Convention Center,” click here for CBS 21 “Man shot in Lancaster” and click here for PennLive.com,  “Shooting reported in Lancaster.”
LNP is not reporting this extremely serious attempted murder (or the victim may have died and it may be a murder) to protect their convention center and not the public they are supposed to serve!  This is beyond despicable!
    Please check back later today.

    SCHREIBER LIES!

Today, the New Era runs an editorial that is nothing but a blatant attempt to coerce the County Commissioners into increasing the hotel tax to benefit the hotel the newspapers own.  Can you say conflict of interest?   Unbelievable!
Run these newspapers and their new “Executive Editor,” Ernie Schreiber, out of town!

Click here for “The hotel tax” and please check back later today.
Please also note the “disclaimer” at the end of the editorial. What a sad joke:
