    TANGLED WEBS

    sam-roseboro

Sam Roseboro’s Facebook profile picture.  The woman with him is 18-year-old Amber Weiler who died unexpectedly at home in Denver last Friday.  Her cause of death has not been officially released.

Sam’s father, Michael Roseboro, made the front page of today’s paper with his appeal of his murder conviction to the Pennsylvania Superior Court based on the Facebook postings of two jurors during his trial (click here).

    DUPLICITOUS

Look they had a torrid affair - happens every day all day around the globe. Usually no one dies, but in this case someone did and that is the real tragedy. Life is going to go on for all involved whether anyone likes it or not. I find this whole thing fascinating for the simple fact there are just sooo many unanswered questions and the seemingly weird reaction by Angie and Mike. Can two people really be so callous as to chit chat about the Penguins winning the Stanley Cup when one of them is in jail accused of the murder of his wife? It is just really scary to witness how duplicitous human beings can be! How well do you really know someone? Reminds me so much of the Scott Peterson case.

    ECHO FOREVER

let the poor girl rest in peace and leave it be. the people who need to know what happened know what happened. so mind your own buisness you stupid bitch.

This comment in under “IT IS A NEWS STORY!” below.

A friend instant messaged me and then called me yesterday morning before 7:00 a.m.  “Sam Roseboro’s girlfriend died,” she said.  “It says it right in her obituary.”

She immediately knew it was a news story.  I was stunned.  I said something to the effect of, “You just never know how many twists and turns a story will take.”

Sadly, the death of 18-year-old Amber Weiler has become a part of the Roseboro saga.  That’s a fact and that’s the way it is.  Tragedy has struck again.

I was immediately reminded of these sentences from M. William Phelp’s press release about his upcoming book on the Roseboro murder (click here):

Phelps says, “I have been stealthily following this case since August 2008, after Roseboro’s arrest. It has all the elements I look for when telling crime stories in book form. I understand the ripple effect of murder inside the family dynamic and how it can echo forever; I’ve seen it happen in my own family. I hope to tell Jan Roseboro’s complete story, transforming her legacy into something more than a headline.”

I will leave it at that today.  Please keep name calling out of your comments.  I will not publish a comment like the one above again.  Thank you.

    LOVE HER TO DEATH

March 2011 will bring the re-launch of my career with LOVE HER TO DEATH, a book about the Michael Roseboro case out of Denver, Pennsylvania, which was recently profiled on “48 Hours.” Lots of interesting things are being put into action surrounding the release of this title, which will feature an entire new look to my true-crime books. The cover for LOVE HER TO DEATH, in its final stages of development, is incredible. Nothing like you would expect. I am entirely indebted to the art department at Kensington and my long time editor Michaela Hamilton for spending so much time working on this cover.

    HELP STORMY GIRL!

    MAN ACQUITTED OF WILDLIFE CHARGE
A Geistown man who, along with his wife, nursed a fawn for 11 days has been acquitted of unlawful possession of game or wildlife.
Gregory Joseph Pavlosky, 48, of the 100 block Clayton Drive, was found not guilty Thursday by District Judge Max Pavlovich of Richland Township.
Pavlosky and his wife found the fawn May 22 on the Route 56 Expressway.
The state game commission, which filed the charges, had told The Tribune-Democrat when the incident came to light that it had taken action because Pavlosky didn’t return the fawn as requested to the area where it was found.
Pavlosky told the newspaper he had followed the request and put the fawn off to the side of the road but later received a call from a friend that the animal was on the expressway again. Pavlosky said he took the fawn for fear it would be killed by a vehicle or cause an accident.

From the Tribune-Democrat (click here and it is the second item down).

Does the Pennsylvania Game Commission understand common sense?  Obviously not.  There is this from the “Help Stormy Girl!” Facebook page (click here):

Another picket is being planned, this time in downtown Lancaster outside legislator’s offices.  Details coming soon.

You can be assured that I will be there.

    THE FACEBOOK JURORS!

Convicted killer Michael Roseboro has asked a state appeals court for a new trial, or at least a hearing, because two jurors communicated with friends on Facebook during the trial.
Today’s Intell/New Era article, “Roseboro appeals,” (click here).
Darn Facebook!  This comes as no surprise – and it’s entirely possible the state court will take a different stand on this issue.  Will Mike get another day in court?

    GETTING IT ONLINE?

A commenter to this site noted that the Lancaster Newspapers are going to start charging people reading their obituaries in certain cases.  As an e-Editions subscriber, I have tried to pull up a number of pages recently only to find the message, “This file could not be found.”  That is true of page B1 in today’s paper and I am not amused.  They need to clean up their act – or offer a refund!

    UNDER FIRE - 4

“The fire is still under investigation.  There has not been a ruling on the cause of the fire,” East Cocalico Township Police Sgt. Larry Martin said by phone this afternoon.  This past Friday morning, the $2.4 million dollar estate of Nicholas J. and Denise G. Reinhart was demolished by a fast moving fire.

Martin said State Police Fire Marshall Robert Hess was on the scene Friday evening and will determine the cause.

Asked about the family who owns the property, Martin said “there is an ongoing investigation.”  He also stated that he believes the house “was being lived in” at the time of the fire.

I will follow up with Fire Marshall Hess tomorrow.

On a small world note, you might remember Martin from the CBS 48 Hours episode on the Roseboro murder.  He testified at length during the trial and was interviewed during the TV show.

I particularly remember one telling point during his testimony.  Discussing the fact that the police offered Michael Roseboro details about his wife’s death – but Roseboro seemed uninterested – Martin said he found this to be unusual and odd.  “If my wife died unexpectedly,” he testified, “I would sure want to know what happened.”

Well, in other news, the city shut down the Brunswick Hotel for safety reasons for months but apparently failed to see that a building in the heart of downtown Lancaster was about to collapse – which it did this morning!  Way to go, Mayor Gray!

    Please check back tomorrow.

    HANG-UPS?

Notes, quotes and why did Angela Funk go on national TV to tell her story when she wouldn’t speak to local reporters?

Funk — the lover of Denver funeral home operator Michael Roseboro, who was convicted of killing his wife, Jan — was the “star” of the “48 Hours Mystery” program on CBS a week ago. Funk, who also gave birth to Roseboro’s son, hung up when a reporter from the Sunday News called Saturday to seek her opinion on the TV program.

Maybe Funk, who apparently wasn’t paid for her appearance, thinks most people here don’t stay up that late on Saturday night to watch TV.

Then again, I’m always amazed by local people who will talk openly to national or regional media, but not the local media. You don’t think it’s going to get back home? Or you expect gentler treatment?

Incredibly stupid Sunday News editor Marv Adams today in his column, “(un)Reality TV show,” (click here).

So, Marv, after over a year your reporter picks up the phone to actually call Angie once on Saturday at 11:00 pm?  And you are shocked she wouldn’t talk to your reporter?  Are you nuts, Marv?

Of course, the answer to that is “Yes!”  Please check back later today for more on Dr. Carter, John Fry (notice he is not a doctor!), (shudder!) Bennett J. Vonderheide is in the news again, (gasp!) is Abigail “sexting?” and why is it almost 10:00 am?  Is my clock wrong?

    *** BREAKING NEWS ***

“Drexel board expected to name John Fry as president” (click here)!  There goes another dummy!

    DUMB & DUMBER!

Well Becky, you really should have taken some journalism classes before doing this kind of work (Oh, I mean hobby)! My teenager, taking journalism in high school said your “sources” are not credible. Ouch!

This, honest to God, came in as part of a comment from an Angie supporter today.  Just when you think you’ve met the dumbest person on the planet - lo and behold – here comes someone dumber!  Who knew?

Yes, that is an “ouch” indeed!  I published in early August 2008 that Angie was pregnant.  Were my sources not credible?  I said her husband had a vasectomy.  Was that not credible?  I said Angie had a background of “dating” married men.  Was that not credible?  Would you like me to go on?  Did you hear what District Attorney Craig Stedman said about her on 48 Hours?

One of my favorite moments during the trial between Stedman and Angie was about how she and Mike got together.  Angie told of Mike’s first phone call in which he said he “couldn’t stop thinking about her.”

“That’s all it took?” Stedman asked in disbelief.

Yes, that’s all it took.  And that speaks volumes.

Please check back for a final wrap up on this tomorrow - although any future Angie developments will continue to be published right here.

    WATCH ANGIE CRY!

    angie-cries

I normally don’t comment or really even care about this case but I almost lost my supper when I saw Funk crying at the end of the show. An Oscar for best actress is not coming her way anytime soon. Her insincerity was as transparent as the glass in my living room window.

She had something to do with that murder. She’s not innocent.

She makes it seem like she did nothing at all.

       She makes me sick.

    — Just re-watched it. Angie is pathetic. I was confused about something Stedman said. He says at one point that there is “compelling evidence” that Angie knew more than she admitted to. Then, he says that he doesn’t believe she knew Michael was going to murder Jan. So, I’m wondering, add to this Angie’s comment that she knew Michael was going to do “something…not that,” what DID she think he was going to do that night?
      Speculation….
It’s just so incredibly sad and tragic.

Got to agree that Angie’s facial looks said that she was lying.

Constant blinking, looking to the right and then downward.

Think she knew that Mike was going to have it out with Jan that night.

I think a body language expert would have a field day with Angie Funk’s footage…I may not be an expert, but her demeanor was contradictory to what was coming out of her mouth..which by the way..made me feel disgusting and dirty…the first thing that popped into my head was the word “sociopath”…

Congrats to the East Cocalico Police, they sure ruffled her feathers when they brought up MIke’s other girlfriends. She was visibly agitated, and then made that phone call to Mike during the police interview. Mike had a handful of girls, all just a phone call away, during the same time he was seeing, what’s her name again?

    — The whole thing is just a a mess!  The police interrogation was a scream, two cheaters not trusting each other, and at the end I love you too. And a day by day marriage, wow, so sad to live like that. Their lives are hell cause they made it that way. I feel sorry for the kids. None of my business but those kids are in my prayers. As for the adults they all need long term help and counseling.

How in God’s name does Angie look at herself in the mirror? My stomach had knots in it listening to her speak of the relationship so matter of factually. Why would she continue to talk to him while he was in prison, and why does she still continue to talk to him? How on earth is she still married? Angie’s husband must be made of stone.

When Angie was speaking of the day of the murder, and her being in the hotel with him, she was asked what she was doing (as if it was a mystery) and she stated, “having sex.” I about spit out my coffee!!! The nerve of that woman. Talk about blunt. If I were in her shoes I would have refused to answer that question if for no other reason than a little self preservation, if that’s possible.

He made me feel like a woman –

    a beautiful woman.

Angela Funk on CBS’s 48 Hours last night.

Isn’t that special?  You aren’t a beautiful woman – inside or out.  You mean your first husband didn’t make you feel like a “beautiful woman?”  Is that why you cheated on him?

Didn’t all those married men you dated after you destroyed your first marriage made you feel like a “beautiful woman?”

Doesn’t Randy make you feel like a “beautiful woman?”  You bragged all over the Buck that he was a virgin.  Didn’t you teach him well?

You aren’t a beautiful woman, Angie - inside or out!  You are a lying, sick and twisted woman who knows much more than she is telling.

    BELOW THE BELT?

I wish, I wish with all my heart my pecker would of stayed in my pants from the very start, blows out his candle.

This comment in under “48 HOURS TO GO!” below about Roseboro’s possible birthday wish tomorrow!  What a hoot!

Quick – what do 15 lawyers, a funeral director, a nurse, a couple of CPAs and a few more insurance agents have in common?

This is the opening sentence to Ron Harper’s first piece in the Pennsylvania Independent, “Senate Ethics,” (click here).

Ron is one of the hottest topics on the Lancaster Online Trashback forum where a thread about him, “Ron Harper back in the news” was started several days ago.  One persistent critic posted this:

No actually I am quite serious. Mr. Harper is a somewhat fragile man and his son has a penchant for pizzing people off. I know that people call the elder Harper looking for Jr., it isn’t a big leap from calling to confronting them at their door just as Jr. likes to do to his “victims”

To which there is this most excellent reply:

I can’t see how you can claim to be concerned about his dad while gossiping on lol.  Not the kind of ‘friend’ I would want.

How very true!  What a below the belt and stupid comment.

This new information from Joy O’Shea Woomer on the Justice For Joy site (click here):

Sentencing is scheduled for Wednesday, March 24th at 9:00am in courtroom #12.
My attorneys and I have little idea about what to expect.  I was found guilty of 3 separate charges, which runs concurrently.  How the 3 charges will merge is a mystery. Sentencing guidelines don’t  address it and since this sentencing law was enacted about 10 years ago, there’s never been a case that merged these 3 charges.
In short, the most severe sentence could “roll” down from 20-40 years. to the lesser sentence of  6 - 7 1/2 years.
Sentencing Witness - I’m permitted to have up to 10 character witnesses to speak on my behalf.
        1.  Am not sure who will be selected.  I need to discuss this with Tom (my brother) a little further.  Potential witness are guaranteed a chance to speak on my behalf and will be notified soon.
After sentencing, we can start working on an appeal.  How we’ll go about this is uncertain.
Also, after sentencing, I will be transferred to the State Correctional Institution at  Muncie, PA (near Williamsport) within 2-6 weeks.
I’ve been assured by many other inmates who have done time @ Muncie  that life is much more bearable there compared to here.
Still, it’s a maximum security prison.  I could possibly be transferred to a minimum security facility if I choose.  However, it would be much further away (between Pittsburgh & Erie) and would make visiting more difficult  - especially for my parents.
At this point, I’m not thinking too far into the future and doing my best to deal with the present.

I’ve learned to sleep 14-16 hours a day.  It’s the ultimate escape.  I have some really funky dreams.  Most of the time, the people I love are in them.  Often times, most of my family members are gathered for some occasion while I’m in La-La-Land.
During waking hours, I’ve honed my scrabble skills,  becoming the one everyone tries to beat. Most challengers, I beat by at least 30 & up to 100 + points.  I especially love it when Ghetto words are attempted.  “What do you mean, “Shanky Ho” is not in the Scrabble dictionary?”
Jimmy turns 20 on Feb. 28.
I think that’s all the news at this time.  Please stay informed through the JusticeforJoy.org web site. Also, I get to see comments on the J4J Facebook.  So, blog away.
    Love to All

    ANGIE KNOWS MORE!

    angie-on-cbs1

An unexpected tip revealed Michael was having an affair with Angela Funk, a married mother of two who lived near the funeral home.
When the affair was uncovered, it was only seven weeks old. But police discovered thousands of phone calls, text messages and emails between them, which they said proved that Michael and Angela were clearly obsessed with each other. They even had a tryst the day of Jan’s murder and were already discussing marriage.
Did Michael Roseboro kill his wife to be with his mistress of only a few weeks? Or, did police, with little evidence to go on, rush to judgment, as Michael Roseboro’s family claims? And does Angela Funk really know more than she is telling, as prosecutors believe?

From the CBS 48 Hours preview (click here).

Oh, there was no rush to judgment and Angie knows a whole lot more than she is telling.  This is going to be good!

Lady in the pool.  I live in the area.  This mistress needs a lie detector test.  She is not as innocent as she acts.  She was NOT a victim.  She freely did this to her family and friends.  She has the perfect life and claims to be a christian.  Many of us would love to have a husband so nice and loyal and providing. There also is a history with infidelity.  To this day I believe she knew what was going on.  Just my opinion.

Did you see her?  Angie Funk last night in a promo for CBS’s 48 Hours show next week on the Roseboro murder?  She said, “I honestly didn’t know anything was going to happen.”  When Angie says “honestly,” you know she’s lying!

The excitement is building and I just can’t wait.  The episode will air at 10:00 pm next Saturday night.

        This comment in:

Big night this Saturday,,,,I would imagine all of Denver will be sitting in front of TVs to watch the 48hr episode. Will the skank mistress be strolling down Walnut St this Saturday evening?  Is the Denver Turkey Hill giving out free coffee this weekend to celebrate the publicity they are receiving???

        And this comment:

Somebody said a group is gathering outside the Stradling funeral home on Walnut Street in Denver to watch the show via satellite while they tailgate.

Now that sounds like a plan!  I’ll bring the chips and dip – all purchased from Turkey Hill - of course!

Posted on February 12th, 2010 Becky 5 comments

*What a week!  I am exhausted and there is talk of more snow!  Say what?  They literally just plowed my street and made absolutely no dent in the six inches of ice and packed snow covering it.  Argh!!!  Oh, my God!  My social security statement just came!  How depressing!

Everyone have a great Friday and tomorrow I might be revitalized!

    ROCK OF GIBRALTAR!

It was last Thursday that a CBS vehicle was spotted in Denver and I received this email from a friend:

…Also she said she saw a CBS truck at Turkey Hill in Denver…Call them and ask if they are in town 717-336-4723… lol.

What a good idea!  So I picked up the phone and dialed the Turkey Hill.  My fatal mistake was identifying myself as a reporter to the young man who answered the phone.

I asked if CBS had been there filming.  “I don’t know anything about that,” he said.  “All press requests have to go through the corporate office.”

I tried my best.  I mentioned the Roseboro murder.  “I don’t know anything about that,” he said.

“Surely you must remember,” I coaxed.  “Mike Roseboro killed his wife.  He used to meet his mistress at your Turkey Hill for coffee in the morning?  Was CBS there today?”

“I wouldn’t know anything about that,” he said again.  “All press requests have to go through the corporate office.”

I asked for the manager.  “I am the manager,” he said.  I asked for his name and he said, “Andy.”

Andy was as unmovable as the Rock of Gibraltar and obviously had paid attention to his corporate training.

If anyone goes in to the Denver Turkey Hill, please fill Andy in on the lurid details of the Roseboro murder!

I bought a (delicious) cup of coffee there last summer, and let me tell you, at least half the town of Denver must have known Mike and Angie were having an affair!  Maybe Andy is new?

    WE NEED MORE LIP!

You have totally radicalized your site. The avalanche of pro-drug, socialist health care, and leftist economics articles makes me sick. Seems to me you’re turning yourself into another LIP.

Part of a letter into NewsLanc.com titled “Goodbye,” (click here).

I guess LIP is me!  I don’t know whether to feel honored or hurt!  Okay, I’ll go with honored!  The last time I checked, I don’t think this site has a lot of “pro-drug, socialist health care, and leftist economics articles.”  To be truthful, economics is well over my head.

I’m not sure what NewsLanc is going for with their eclectic and rather strange mix of articles, but damn, I do like their format and layout!  I’m working on improving the appearance of this site.

    THOSE FACEBOOK JURORS!

This comment just in under “MIKE DID WHAT?” below on this site:

Becky, it was reported in this weeks issue of the Ephrata Review that Roseboro’s attorney Sodomsky will be appealing the verdict of his first appeal in the superior court of the state of Pennsylvania.

What happens in that arena? How powerful is the superior court? How likely is it that the superior court will have a different opinion on the matter at hand?

Sodomsky is milking the face book kids issue as the basis for the continuance of appealing the juror’s decision of guilty.

What is your opinion on the matter? I see Lancaster Newspaper missed this one as well….they need to go bankrupt and just let those old tired reporters enjoy their retirement, they are already half retired anyway……..LNP…what a waste of perfectly good paper.

That’s a lot of questions and I don’t know the answer to many but I will research it and here’s a beginning:

It doesn’t surprise me in the least and I believe Roseboro and Sodomsky will pursue every possible appeal avenue.  The Superior Court can certainly overrule Judge Cullen but I have no idea, obviously, whether they will or not.

I think the Facebook jurors is one of his strongest appeal avenues.  Many courts have ruled differently than Cullen on this issue and I will try to find some articles and cases and post them at a later date.  I was somewhat surprised that Cullen did not rule for a hearing with these two jurors and I believe it is possible a higher court may do so.

In terms of other appeal avenues, Cullen ran a very tight courtroom and there was little contention and very few attorney/judge sidebars and conferences.  Compare that to the three days only of the Joy O’Shea Woomer trial I attended where these conferences took up more than several hours of court time alone.

And, of course, I agree with you about LNP and their really awful reporters.

    YOU GROW UP!

Which brings me to this comment in under “RANDALL MILLER SHOULD TAKE IT…”:

Becky, it is quite clear that you have an obsession with ADA Miller and the DA’s office…I find it quite disturbing that you are attacking him personally for doing his job.  What kind of person are you to evoke this kind of insane behavior….You sound like a “school girl” who got her feelings hurt!  Grow up Becky and stop the verbal assaults on ADA Miller…Joy Woomer was found GUILTY because of the evidence presented in the case and for NO OTHER REASON!!!!!

I gave a rather flippant reply and then returned with this – given more time than the five minutes I took to respond – I could write a novel on this subject:

So glad you liked it! I’m sick of people saying I’m obsessed with this or that. What a bunch of crap!

    1. We pay the members of the District Attorney’s Office to work for us and protect us.
    2. It is the job of the press to cover them.
    3. When someone in the DA’s office is bad at their job, or a liar, it is the duty of the press to report it. The fact LNP hasn’t done this for years is the reason many of these liars become judges.
    4. Insane behavior?  I believe you need a psych evaluation.
    5. Verbal attacks?  See #4.
    6. Nothing of the sort happened in the Joy O’Shea Woomer trial.

        Are you happier now?

    MISSION IMPOSSIBLE!

Speaking of LNP, did you see their side by side front page headlines this morning?  One said, “Storm shuts down county, makes travel impossible.”  Right next to it was this, “Despite the storm, people still get out and about.”

What a hoot!  So which is it?  This is total incompetence at a very high level!  How do these people keep their jobs?

The word is that CBS News has been spotted in Denver!  Yippee!  Now they better make a fast exit or they may be spending more time in Denver than they planned.

If you’ve seen anyone from CBS in Denver or nearby,  please let me know!

Enjoy the snow and be safe - and as long as I don’t lose power – in more ways than one (!) - comments will remain open through the blizzard of 2010!

    LOVE THAT ANGIE!

    pregnantangie12

During the trial, an attorney representing Roseboro’s girlfriend, Angela Funk, said Funk also had agreed to speak to the CBS television reporters.

Today’s article by Janet Kelley, “CBS prepares for Roseboro segment,” (click here).

Yes, Janet, it was published here over a year ago that Funk traveled to New York to meet with CBS producers!  Angie’s 15 minutes are far from over!

It was revealed to me recently that within days of Jan’s murder, police filled Funk in on some of the gruesome details and also Mike Roseboro’s other affairs.  The fact that Jan was brutally murdered by Mike didn’t seem to faze her – but she got plenty mad that he lied to her about having other women in his life!

You just have to love that Angie!

    ***BREAKING NEWS***

    ROSEBORO - NO RELIEF

Judge James Cullen has denied the post sentencing motion by the defense in the Michael Roseboro murder conviction.  In an opinion filed today, the Judge ruled there will not be a hearing with any jurors nor will Roseboro get a new trial.  The Judge has granted Roseboro no relief.

    JOY, ROSEBORO, BIGMAC

    THREATS & MORE!

Nearly 600 Fans!!! I talked to Joy today. She was so grateful for all of your support and love. She sends her thanks. Keep spreading the word. We want to have 1000 fans by the end of next week. I would ask all Nurses to share our cause with their colleagues.

From JusticeForJoy.org (click here and click on the Facebook link.)

Actually, she had 622 fans the last time I checked this morning but it literally is growing by the minute.

I called the Court Reporter’s office in Lancaster last week and they told me Judge David Ashworth has requested a transcript of Joy O’Shea Woomer’s trial.  The woman who answered the phone also stated copies are $.90 a page and she estimated the total cost at about $1,500.  That’s right – and you can not pick and choose portions/pages.  If anyone gets a copy, please let me know and we can share and copy it much cheaper.  My local Staples wants $.08 per page!

    TRASHBACK GALA!

        This email in:

You should check out the TB thread in the “Off-Beat” section where the TB’ers are planning their next get-together.  Mac is going to Vegas for 5 days.  The same woman who is on medical assistance and has no job.
Pardon me if I’m a bit peeved, since I can’t afford a trip to Vegas, have to work for a living and pay for my medical care.  And I surely can’t afford to go out gambling and drinking every week to boot.  I wonder if she’s made the connection that her major dental woes may be the result of all

    her boozing.

What a hoot!  Yes, BigMac is planning the grand Trashback gala to be held this coming weekend!  Ain’t life grand!  I’ll be taking cup cheese!

    ROSEBORO STORY NOT OVER!

Speaking about the Trashback forum, this was posted by “Chance” a/k/a Deb Fitzkee under an article about the Roseboro Funeral Home being sold:

Purg did you and hyprocisy get tired of just posting on another website. Like the I’ve heard touch. Guys in jail where he belongs. End of story.
Following from Purg in a PM
Hey buckaroo,,you have too much time on your hands.

What is wrong with this woman that she is so worried about my site?  I think another Trashbacker had a good response and posted this:

Chance, WTF does this post have to do with the Roseboro case? Keep your silly little childish forum games to yourself and PM.  Maybe you should break away from the PC every now and then.

Oh, and Deb, it is not the “end of the story.”  In case you haven’t heard, Roseboro filed an appeal and Judge James Cullen is coming to his time deadline in ruling on that appeal.  Oh, and once again, 48 Hours is doing a segment and M. William Phelps is writing a book, “Love Her To Death” on the crime.

    OUR OWN BERNIE MADOFF

On an icy morning last week, Sensenig’s home on Valley View Road in East Earl Township was quiet; no one appeared to be home. At the southern edge of the property, large dogs sat in wire cages. Plans by Sensenig’s son to expand a kennel on the property drew protests in 2005 and 2006.
Associate Sunday News Editor Gil Smart in his front page story today, “MISPLACED FAITH?” (click here).
Did you even knock on his door, Gil, to see if he was home?  What a joke of a story.  It is unreadable!  This is the Associate Editor of the Sunday News and he can’t write!  How is that possible?

This big “investigative story” has six pictures and illustrations along with it and a sidebar story by Smart.  And yet it says almost nothing.  If Sensenig is the Bernie Madoff of the Wenger Mennonites, then say so!  Jesus, this is bad!

    DON’T THREATEN ME!

And speaking of investigative stories, two commenters to this site have crossed the line on the Lancaster Lynching story and their comments will no longer be posted.  When you get several people this upset and angry, you know you have hit the truth.

There will be much more tomorrow on the background of the Lancaster Lynching story.

  • STATEMENT FROM LIP NEWS

Posted on January 5th, 2010 Becky 20 comments

[Editor’s Note:  I was asked to take this post down shortly after publishing.  Reluctantly, I have deleted a portion of the email.  There will be more tomorrow.]

    LOVE HER TO DEATH

I do not take kindly to being played a fool.  This morning I was happily typing along when I heard an email come in.  It was from crime author M. William Phelps and said this in part:

…I cannot be connected in any way to your site. If you want to say you cold-called me for an interview and I granted one, that would be accurate.

Thanks for understanding. Please clear the matter up on the site for me.

Puzzled, I had no idea what he wanted me to clear up.  Why would anyone think he was in any way associated with my site (besides getting a ton of information from it)?  He is a nationally recognized author of numerous books with a publisher and numerous publicists.  I am Becky Holzinger – owner, editor and writer of LIP News.

I was not going to reveal anything he told me in confidence, including the name of his book on the Roseboro murder.  However, as friends pointed out today, he already gave the title of the book in an interview with the Hartford Examiner in November – “Love Her To Death” - click here.

In fact, in my confusion this morning, I sent him the two opening paragraphs I had typed and he liked them.  Because he used them when he turned around and sent me his own release detailing his upcoming three books that will be released before “Love Her To Death” and then including the statement I published this morning.

These were my opening two sentences which he turned around and sent back as his:

Crime author M. William Phelps is forthcoming, open and honest.  He is currently writing his book and finishing up interviews on the Roseboro murder.

I might rethink my opening sentence.  Let me make this clear – this site is in no way affiliated with author M. William Phelps or his upcoming book on the Roseboro murder.  As an independent journalist, I have corresponded by email and spoken to him on the  phone several times.  I understand that many readers are anxious for his book and any additional information he can provide.  I am as well.  I did call him yesterday afternoon – but it was not a totally cold call – and I was surprised at how open he was and the salacious – yes, salacious - information he relayed.  However, he did state that I could not publish any of it and I was going to and will stand by that – unless I see it published elsewhere first.

I will also not be used.  There is the old saying that any publicity is good publicity and I believe I have only given him “good” publicity to date.  Anyone being interviewed by Mr. Phelps has no cause for alarm that anything they state to him will be published here.

Hopefully, Mr. Phelps and I will remain cordial and continue to correspond.  I love the title of the book and I like to think that in our first phone call that took place during the trial, Phelps heard me when I said this was a story like no other and he should absolutely write a book about this case.
