    *    The below events at the convention center are not filling the Marriott Hotel (click here). It will be used for 11 days in October and 10 days in November! (I wonder how much they are charging McCaskey for their homecoming.)

We stayed here for my best friend’s wedding. First off, when I booked, I ended up having to book a second night. When I called to change my reservation, the girl was very rude on the phone, and claimed the wedding wasn’t blocked off for Friday, just Saturday. So I would have to pay full price. When I told the bride, she said that was not the case. The groom ended up calling to change my booking. The couple called everyone who had booked from the wedding to make sure they got the negotiated price. Apparently I wasn’t the only one they tried to make pay the non-wedding rate.
From a review of the Lancaster Marriott Hotel on Yelp from August of last year (click here).
The “20/20” episode on the murder of Christy Mirack on Friday began by stating that Lancaster is a well known wedding destination.
I learned this several years ago when I happened on Marriott reviews and everyone was there for a wedding. The convention center is not filling the Marriott and not the reason they are expanding – weddings are!
Why is this such a secret?

    1. I dont think its a secret that the marriot does alot of weddings. We always see people in gowns & suits out front thats for sure. I also noticed alot of buses in the back part on vine st. I think it may be used as pick up/drop off destination. I think the marriages are the only business they even get besides the few people that grab drinks at bar

    2. But when they talked about expanding the Marriott, they said it was because they needed more hotel rooms for convention goers! That was a lie.

    3. The project’s planners have said the addition would address a shortage of hotel rooms needed to attract larger conventions to the Lancaster County Convention Center, which adjoins the Marriott.

    4. The math is simple.
If the Lancaster County Convention Center wants to attract bigger numbers of large conventions, it needs bigger numbers of nearby, convention-quality hotel rooms.

    5. Pittsburgh seems to attract a lot of conventions. Erie has a beautiful complex right on the lake. Building one in Lancaster never did seem like a winner given the competition nearby. With the taxpayers on the hook the lancaster county Republicans seemed to like this socialistic gamble. Why Gib Armstrong bet his political legacy on the convention center and baseball stadium. Losing bet Gib. Didn’t come out of your pocket though did it? Socialists.

    6. WTF. In Lancaster County. Socialism is good when it’s perpetuated by the good old boy Lancaster County Hamilton Club, Lancaster Country Club Republicans. Otherwise, it’s the great Satan. The exception being any Democrat who places his or her short hairs into the fingers of the good old boy network. Former Mayor Dick and the current Mayor Clone would be good examples.
