  • AFTERNOON UPDATE – MINORITIES: JUST SUCK IT UP!

    HOW ARE THE
    JURY
    POOLS SELECTED?

The above is from a LNP story in July by Jeff Hawkes on the retirement of Judge Lawrence Stengel (click here for, “Judge Lawrence Stengel to retire after career that gave ‘everyone a fair shake’ “).
How is it “possible” that there are still all white juries in Lancaster County (see yesterday’s post on the trial of Darrall Fields) and why isn’t LNP questioning it and demanding answers?
There will be more on this and other questions that should be answered about Fields’ trial tomorrow.
A horrific murder in Lancaster and the arrest of the Middletown Police Chief for attempted rape and other charges have overshadowed other news today.

    A SIMPLE SOLUTION?

From a Letter to the Editor in today’s LNP print edition and online here. The author, Randy L. Herman, was a police officer for 41 years until he retired in 2016.

I’m sure minorities everywhere will appreciate that “simple solution,” Mr. Herman! Simply unbelievable! Who cares about equal justice for all?
    Please check back later today.

    1. Am Gobsmacked over that letter from Herman.

      It does not make sense.

    2. So scary, galty!

    3. That’s pretty much the ‘tude in Lancaster County.

    4. The ‘simple solution’ applies to everyone…….. regardless of their race or national origin.

Some, however, will put their own “context” or “spin” on it….whatever meets their agenda.

    5. He was off the topic. The topic was disparity in sentencing.

    6. I sat on a jury at the Old Bailey and the trial was about a father who had been accussed of sexuly abused his daughter.

When we were sent out to consider the verdict One of the jury members insisted he was innocent and gave very stupid reason why.

My thought was he did the same to his own daughter and found nothing wrong with that.

In this Case in the UK a majority verdict can be returned by 10 to 2 we found the father guilty by 11 to 1…in the old days this would have been classed as aa miss trial causing time and money for a new trial and some times letting the guilty off by drooping the case.
