[I am switching up today but will come back to the riot story tomorrow.]
I wrote the below on the one year anniversary (if I recall correctly) of this site and that would make it published on September 25, 2005 (click here for the original on the old LIPNews site). And today, on the 25th day of the month, I was billed for my annual renewal by my webhosting company (the plan changed over the years – so the month is different but the 25th day of the month is still always significant).
Anyway, that and then the news of the arrest of a notorious serial killer and rapist who was a former police officer took me aback with a jolt. You see, what I saw that raised the hairs on the back of my neck so, so many years ago was the name of the same detective in unsolved murder after unsolved murder – and I knew he was a dirty and vicious cop.
I’ll say one more thing on a heavy note and then I have a birthday to celebrate. As a reporter, I have had the hairs on the back of my neck raised several times. During the Lancaster Lynching story, which is coming soon, and while reading some articles on the Cortney Fry murder. On the Talkback Board, the names Lindy Biechler, Christy Mirack and Mary Ann Bagenstose would keep coming up. I didn’t pay much attention. I hadn’t lived in Lancaster and knew nothing about their cases. But then, with the whole grand jury thing, I thought maybe they would be part of the “investigation” (doubtful, seeing as their have been two prior grand juries in this county since their murders) so I very briefly pulled some information. And I saw something there that raised the hairs on the back of my neck as they have never been raised before. What is going on in this town?
* Police have arrested a former police officer and Vietnam War veteran suspected of being the notorious California serial killer known as the East Area Rapist and Golden State Killer, NBC News reports. The serial killer committed 12 homicides, at least 45 rapes and numerous home burglaries between 1976 and 1986.

From left to right: Starling Delacruz-Ramirez, Abismael Cedano-Ramirez, Anelky Cordero-Pena
The above three were charged with “riot with intent to prevent or coerce official action” as a result of an incident on April 12, 2018 in the city. They were all originally scheduled to have their preliminary hearings before District Judge Jodie E. Richardson this morning at 9:00 am.
According to their dockets, two have obtained private attorneys and their hearings have been rescheduled:
— Abismael Cedano-Ramirez, who is also charged with reckless driving and driving while operating privilege is suspended or revoked, is represented by attorney Osvaldo Espinosa and his preliminary hearing is now scheduled for May 14th.
— Anelky Cordero-Pena, who is also charged with aggravated assault, is represented by attorney Cory J. Miller and her preliminary hearing is now scheduled for June 18th.
Starling Delacruz-Ramirez, whose docket does not list an attorney, is still scheduled to have his hearing this morning and I will follow-up later today.
