Yes, I think we need to revisit/revise marijuana laws – but I don’t want to hear it from Gil Smart (see this morning’s post below). I am sick and tired to death of Gil Smart.What do he and washed-up “watchdog” Ron Harper, Jr. have in common? Well, they are Facebook friends and Gil Smart is “liking” Harper’s marijuana rants (“it’s just a plant”) during his work hours! It is absurd and I’m coming to Harper in a minute.Smart can’t report and he’s a lousy columnist as reflected in only 326 people “liking” his “Smart Remarks” Facebook page which has been up for years and has the approval of the Lancaster Newspapers.He writes long blog posts where all he does is quote other websites and nobody reads them – you can’t even find his LNP blog unless you spend serious time looking for it on their website.But this man lives in a quarter-of-a-million dollar home in East Hempfield Township and gets away with this nonsense because he is a man and supposedly LNP’s only “liberal” columnist.You can’t be a “liberal” and work at a racist newspaper. Period.And his view of jornalism? He repeated it again recently on the Smart Remarks Facebook page when SDoL School Board Member Randy Carney posted a link to the article about the reduction in the Lancaster Newspapers’ assessments, thereby depriving the district of over $56,000 annually and said, “One less teacher for our students.”Smart replied:Your comments and Charlie’s comments in the paper today were apropos. But – and this goes back to something I wrote a bit ago re: the gay marriage announcement – at the end of the day, this company is a business, and if it believes it can prove its properties are overassessed, regardless of what was said during the convention center fight – it will seek to have those assessments reduced.It’s disturbing and disgusting! He has no concept of the purpose of journalism or it’s importance to a free society. The Lancaster Newspapers have made millions and millions of dollars off the people of Lancaster County. Several years ago, Executive Editor Ernie Schreiber’s son was given a $20,000 scholarship for college along with four other children of Peggy Steinman’s white-only employees. She does it every year and there’s an article with their pictures in the paper! And you have the audacity to say depriving other students is okay?This comment came into this site recently under the post about Smart’s home from someone who says she worked with him:He is such a hypocrite. He always has been. He thinks he’s such a ‘champion of the little guy’ but he has never had any credibility. I remember growing up at Lancaster Newspapers, and every time I ran into him he was either A) a jerk B) completely aloof, or C) terribly arrogant. And sometimes a combination of all three.I don’t know his personality or how he treats his co-workers, but I agree that he is a total hypocrite and at this point he makes my stomach turn.
As does Ron Harper, Jr. His excuse for sitting on Facebook all day long is that he has self-diagnosed Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) from four years ago when F&M security threw him to the ground and kept him in a holding cell on their campus for two hours. It’s the most disgusting and ridiculous thing I have ever read and makes a mockery of our returning soldiers and sexual abuse victims and others who have a real, overwhelming ”reason” to have PTSD. And if, four years later, he still has a “problem,” then go to a therapist for two or three visits and get it taken care of.Although, I think a professional might find a lot more wrong and it won’t be PTSD! It will be an unbelievable ego and arrogance and an ingrained disrespect and contempt for women.I was going to ignore this unbelievably egotistical, arrogant and nasty man until he started to post obnoxious things about his wife who finally left the man who does nothing but sit on Facebook all day and tell 50-year-old jokes about a substitute clown having “big shoes to fill” and then complaining not enough people have clicked “like” under it.About a week ago he bragged that he bought the domain name “bethanygf.com” for $1.17 during a “sale” and said “Woot!” No one knew what it stood for – I do – it’s his wife’s church! He’s going to play his childish, nasty internet games and put up a website about them. What a truly despicable man!And Gil Smart, an LNP reporter, is his “friend” and “liking” Harper’s Facebook posts! Unbelievable!There will be more at a later date.3 responses to “MY SMART REMARKS!”

Two more reasons as to why LNP should not be a credited source of news.

You stated in an earlier article that you had somebody in mind for a run at the mayor’s office, but you did not mention a name. Would you be willing to mention who you have in mind?

There has to be at least one African-American “legacy” individual who could run. i.e. someone who has deep roots in Lancaster city’s history.
There also must be at least one Hispanic individual who could run. I don’t doubt it.
But why have none of the above ever attempted a run? I don’t have an answer for that however with the city population now so diverse, I believe that such an individual might stand a chance. Even if they don’t stand a chance, it certainly would shed light on the hipocrasy that exists.
