    SADLER, GRAY, STEINMAN

    SWITZER & UMSTEAD!

    Harry Rodriguez-Colon

The first five in my worst of the worst for 2012 are below. The remaining five and two honorary mentions will come tomorrow. I apologize as this is a project that is taking much longer than I anticipated.
The good list will now come on Saturday and then it’s time to finally move into 2013!
Since there are three members of the police force in today’s list and two to come tomorrow, I wanted to highlight this LNP story from today – “Robber gets money, cigarettes at city grocery store” – click here.
I am told there is a camera directly outside this store. Where is the video, Lancaster Police? Why hasn’t it been released to the public so they can help in identifying this extremely dangerous individual? There will be much more on this in the days to come.
Make an arrest and do it now, Lancaster Police, before he shoots and kills someone!

     1. Police Chief Keith Sadler – The big Chief inspector from Philly turned out to be a fraud – and we learned this year why he left Philly in the first place! They don’t want him back but tough! Get the hell out, Sadler!
You’ve done nothing to diversify the force and you’ve done nothing about rampant crime in Lancaster except try to cover it up. A man with no previous criminal history and arrested for allegedly picking up a wallet someone left in a convenience store, committed suicide in a police holding cell because no one was watching the video feed and a 71-year-old man was in very critical condition after being arrested for “public drunkenness” and “falling” in the police station. Those two items alone would be enough to get you fired in any other city. Add to that the nine unsolved murders since you were sworn into office and the numerous unsolved, major crimes in the city during the last six months alone, and a totally incompetent, arrogant band of detectives and you are need to be toast and the sooner the better. What an absolute disgrace and sad legacy you will leave behind in Lancaster!

    2. Mayor J. Richard Gray – The big defense attorney lied to the public about the convention center to get into office in the first place and now the word is he wants a third term. It’s not going to happen! You have failed to improve the quality of anyone’s life except for the Lancaster Newspapers and the “arts” crowd in Lancaster.
You thought you were hiring a big, tough police chief from Philly and that ended your involvement with the police and you could sit back and concentrate on the arts and a “city authentic.“ You were hoodwinked and you refuse to accept the obvious. It’s past time to accept it, fire him and find someone decent to fill the position.
It’s also time for you to publicly apologize to the family and friends of 83-year-old Erma Kaylor and everyone living in the 200 block of West Vine Street for your total lack of concern and the failure of the police to arrest her killer. It’s also well past time for you to bring in help to solve her murder and the murder of Olga-Sanchez-Reyes at a minimum (see the permanent box at the top of this site).

    3. Peggy Steinman – she and her family have left a trail of blatant racism and discrimination in Lancaster that has been bolstered by the Lancaster Newspapers for years. Obviously, this can no longer be tolerated and she needs to apologize and resign immediately.   Ultimately, the Steinman name and legacy in Lancaster will be terrible.

    4. Kent Switzer – This man who is paid $95,261 annually, is the Captain of a Detective Division that cannot solve any murders, arsons, shootings, stabbings, robberies or burglaries. In fact, in December of this year he just decided to lie to the Lancaster Newspapers about the number of unsolved murders in Lancaster (click here for “HOLD SWITZER ACCOUNTABLE!”).
A commenter said this under the article:
I was thinking the exact same thing about the numbers Switzer put forward in that article!! No wonder so many homicides are going unsolved! The cops don’t even know how many there are.
This would not be tolerated in any other city. Fire this pathetic joke of a detective and do it today!

    5.  Todd Umstead – this detective and Police Spokesman has told so many outrageous lies that he would have been fired by any other city years ago. I could point to countless cover-ups by this man, but will limit it to one unconscionable comment he made in June of this year regarding Harry Rodriguez-Colon (click here for “WHO BEAT THIS MAN? – 4“):
The injuries were so bad, officials said, that officers took him to Lancaster General Hospital before he was remanded to Lancaster County Prison.
He received stitches and other treatment before being arraigned and taken to the prison.
Investigators still weren’t sure Friday how Rodriguez-Colon, 35, was injured.
“There was no crime reported,” city police Lt. Todd Umstead said.
So no charges have been filed.
If this detective, whom we pay $86,358 annually, could not see that a crime had been committed, then he should be fired immediately because he’s an idiot and a liar. And for the Lancaster Newspapers to accept his disgusting reply is journalistically and ethically intolerable.
There will be more on that tomorrow when the top two editors of the Lancaster Newspapers are added to the top ten worst list.

    1. Please god let the rumors of Rick Gray seeking a third term be nothing more than just a rumor. I almost never vote republican but will do so in in the upcoming mayoral election if that incompetent goof runs for mayor again. He actually raised taxes even though there is a 9 million dollar surplus in the city’s reserves due to federal and state grants. Many people can hardly get by as it is. Why should these people struggle more so that goober can boast about himself to the newspapers. The only hope we have is a lot of people are unhappy with the way he handled the contract negotiations with the city’s firefighters. People do realize he cried about the city’s budget with the firefighter’s raises after giving his own cronies a lucrative raise. Many seem unhappy with the one hauler trash system as well. As long as he has the newspaper in his corner, the people of Lancaster will continue to buy into his improved crime rate and quality of life lies. Just remember that under Smithgall this city seen 300-350 violent offenses a year. Now the number is at 500-550 but the paper covers it upand tells us how much better we are than every other city in the area.

    2. I’d also like to point out that after eight years of Smithgall we had 5 unsolved homicides. 7 years of Rick Gray we have seen 14 unsolved homicides with at least two others which are not official homicides but everybody knows. Is there a democratic primary in the mayoral election? If so, I gotta switch my party from Independent to Democratic to help keep him gone. Anybody that waistes my tax dollars pushing legislation that fines people for having a satellite dish on the front of their homes is too old and out of touch to be a mayor of any town with a population over 5,000.

    3. kmb – did you see this article: http://lancasteronline.com/article/local/799288_Couple-pleads-no-contest-to-charges-stemming-from-death-of-4-month-old-girl.html I think you’re the one that brought this to my attention.

    4. 31 fractured ribs, fractured spinal cord and vertebrae, fractured arm, fractured elbow and not to mention starvation. I’m no homicide detective but do they really need the coronor to rule this a homicide. This poor child had to have been beaten relentlessly for these injuries to occur. That kind of damage does not come from a fall. Why do the police need a specific incident to rule this a homicide? Maybe there were many different incidences involved in this child’s death. Why is my mayor more outraged about the train station than this innocent child not receiving true justice? This makes me so sick to my stomach. They’ll be out of jail in their 40′s while this child never had a chance to live and what little life she had was brutal. I seen drug dealers sentenced to more time than these child murderers!!!!!!!! LANCASTER SUCKS!!!!!!

    5. kmb, I find the description almost impossible to read. Doesn’t each hospital in Lancaster have a “baby drop off station” at the front door where you can leave a baby with no quesstions asked? Maybe they need to publicize that more. There have been several horrible baby abuse cases and murders this year and it’s so awful and painful to read about and imagine. I don’t know the answers…

    6. Well charging parents who commit murder against their own children with lesser charges certainly does not send the right message. I also find it awfully suspicious that during the 2009 mayoral election year, Dr. Diamantoni who has two offices in the city ruled two very obvious homicides inconclusive. The other case was Lydia Colon-Torres who was found dead after ending a relationship with her boyfriend. It’s obvious Sanaya was beaten to death and Lydia was strangled. She turns up in a river which was a long walk from her home. Her death was ruled a possible suicide. Keep in mind that she did not own a vehicle. Basically Diamantoni said that she could have strangled herself to death and after she died she picked herself up and and threw herself in the river. I know Lydia’s cousin personally and her family will never get justice for what I believe in my heart was a favor to the mayor for his re-election bid. Since their deaths have nothing to do with the Convention Center or Gallery Row and would have made him look bad at the wrong time, Rick Gray simply does not care much like he does not care about Erma Kaylor

    7. The OLD BOY network continues to watch out for each other. The police, mayor, newspapers, coroner, etc. This place makes me sick anymore!!! When I read about Rick Gray boasting of himself, it really bothers me sometimes. Rick Gray may not be illegally corrupt but is doing favors for some of the most important people in the area and it shows!!

    8. The “Safe Haven” at PA hospitals sets a limit on how old the baby can be. I believe it’s something like 28 days old.

    9. Photos of Peggy Steinman never fail to make me laugh at loud. Even more humorous is that she obviously thinks she looks good that way.

The pic of Switzer makes me chuckle as well. Looks like he was trying out for the role of Sgt Shultz from Hogan’s Heroes (and lost).

    10. Safe haven has no age limit…no child left is refused… someone needs to get their facts straight… not that that happens on this site.

    11. I will say the safe haven law targets up to 28 day olds… but the hospital I work in would not turn away any baby or child who would need placement for any reason.

    12. Now, now, “Safe haven,” I appreciate your comments and we do try to get the facts straight on this site!

    13. Colon raped a child, no sympathy for his bruises. I hope they still hurt.

    14. I’m not saying a hospital would refuse a child. But before you get all accusatory, you should know the law. From the PA safe haven website:

      “What happens to the mother/father?
No information from the parents is needed and no questions will be asked. The person leaving the baby can provide family medical information if they choose or they can take a health history form to fill out later and mail in anonymously. As long as the baby is less than 28 days old and not harmed or abused, they will not get into trouble with the police.”

    15. And laws vary from state the state. Some states were having issues with families dropping off their whole brood, older children and teenagers.
