*** BREAKING NEWS *** – A TRUE “EDITARD?”
Posted on January 18th, 2013 13 comments*** BREAKING NEWS *** 1-19-2013 – “Pete Ruggieri Suspends Mayoral Campaign,” (click here).
PETE CAN’T SPELL!

I’m taking things kind of slow for now. I had expected to run against 2 other new people, wasn’t expecting Mayor Grey to seek re-election for a third term so it is a slightly different game plan, very fluid.
Mayoral candidate Pete Ruggieri on his “Vote Ruggieri” Facebook page on January 13th (click here).
Oh, Pete! I thought you pride yourself on your grammar and spelling along with drinking and smoking hashish! I think the book has gone to your head!
The current (for almost eight years now!) Mayor spells his name “Gray.” Got that? With an “a.”
If you are going to be a serious contender (I’m laughing so hard I can barely type), you need to know things like this! You spelled his name wrong two other times this week on your campaign Facebook page!
Put down the bottle and pipe and actively produce a “different game plan.” I really like the “very fluid” line, however, it has a snazzy political ring to it! What I think really think it means is you’ll be running as fast as you can in your Christmas pajamas when the police come knocking at your door!
I do agree, though, that the Lancaster Newspapers calling you the “editard” in an article is ridiculous without some explanation at the very least. And I saw your posted response on January 13th (where you spell Gray’s name incorrectly) that the Lancaster Newspapers have not yet run, so I’m going to do you a huge favor and run it now.
Pete’s as yet unpublished letter to the Lancaster Newspapers is printed in full, complete with the misspelling, below.
Does it get any better than this? Have a great Friday and drink one for Pete for his incredible “daunting challenge“ line!****************************************
I just fired off this note to the LNP Editor in response [to] the recent article listing my profession as “editard” of the POL facebook page.Dear Editor:
I’m writing in response to Bernard Harris’ article last week announcing that Mayor Grey will be seeking a third term and briefly mentioned myself as an independent candidate. Mr. Harris listed a satirical community facebook page that I created as …if that is my profession, diminishing my credibility.
Mr. Harris could have listed my real profession of salesman for a locally owned Lancaster City business, community fundraiser, former telecom professional, or former Police/Fire Dispatcher but chose to list one of my 100 hobbies as if it is my profession.
Being a political newcomer going against a 2-term incumbent mayor is a daunting challenge to begin with, I don’t need the Lancaster Newspapers to portray me as a joke because I moderate a comedy page a few hours per week.

Why doesn’t Lancaster City have a democratic primary? Seriously, I feel that Gray would not stand a chance against another Democrat. I talk to very very few residents who want him in a third term. The problem is that Lancaster is a heavy Democratic city and may vote for Goober Gray for no other reason than his political party. I do expect to see a very low voter turn out. I will do something I never have done before and vote Republican. Gray is a joke and way too old. I’m tired of his push for arts. I’m tired of him taking credit for Lancaster’s downtown expansion when most deals were set while Smithgall was mayor.I always felt a city or township’s leadership should relect their demographics!! York has a black mayor. Harrisburg has a black mayor. Reading has a black mayor. Lancaster however with the same demograpics as other local cities has a late 60′s white mayor with no real idea of what’s going on in Lancaster outside of his precious historic district.

Becky Why dont you stand?
Even if you lose you will be making a powerful statement.

Galty….becky doesent live in Lancaster city…in fact she doesn’t even live in the county

I guess Pete is out! I hope he recovers. I’d rather hear that news from Rick Gray though. Preferably from different circumstances, but whatever gets that old out of touch man away from the mayor’s office is fine with me. I finally watched the video on his reasons for seeking a third term. I found it very amuzing where he mentioned that it takes him 20 minutes to walk a single block because residents are always pulling him aside and praising him for the direction he has taken the city toward.

kmb, I totally agree with you about Pete and hope for a full recovery. As I’ve stated, I enjoy the POL Facebook page and he has an astonishing number of “likes” – almost equal to the Lancaster Newspaper’s Facebook page! But the man is not mayor material. Period. Anyone who spends over $2,000 on booze on a one week cruise does not have the financial where-with-all to be mayor!
Speaking of finances, thank you, galty, but I am terrible at it and therefore rule myself out as a mayoral candidate. And “funny” is correct – at this time I am not a resident of Lancaster City or County. Please note that I said “at this time” as that may change shortly…

Let me just add (spoken as a true politician!) that as a commenter to POL recently stated – the license plates and bad parking photos are getting a little redundant and old!

Rick Gray isn’t mayoral material either!!! He is nothing more than a corporate sell out. If Lancaster ran a primary, he would get creamed. All the imaginary residents who are constantly praising him as walks around the downtown area cannot vote for him. His own wife doesn’t even want him to run. I suspect this is nothing more than an egotistical complex. We all know how LNP loves stroking his ego since he protects their investments with our tax dollars. I guess the city residents will really see what’s going on when we lose our professional fire fighters. Lancaster has mostly row homes and yes in a suburban setting where homes aren’t attached to each other, volunteers can be effective. That extra couple of minutes to call people away from their jobs to fight fires will cost more damage to city houses as well as lives. I’ll bet we won’t lose our satellite dish/grass inspectors. Randy Patterson and Charlotte Katzenmoyor will continue to be well paid. We won’t lose our green program which spends millions to recycle less than one percent of rain water. We will not lose funding to those worthless surveillance cameras and who knows how bad Gray will stick us taxpayers with that dumb convention center. If the next four years are indictative of the last three, who knows what crazy new ideas which benefit the very few will be inacted.
-
How can we truly call Goober Gray a Democrat? Outside of his anti-gun views, he has been pro big business and took a major dump on the firefighters union!! He is just another member of Lancaster’s infamous old boy network.

Lancaster doesn’t have a contested Democratic primary for mayor because there is a lack of interest among qualified opposing candidates. Remember that four years ago the Republicans failed to endorse a candidate; Smithgall won the primary only by an unopposed write-in effort.
Far too few successful lawyers or business people would voluntarily take a substantial pay cut to be mayor of Lancaster. Our tax base is shrinking (thanks to appeals by companies like Lancaster Newspapers), state and federal funding have been slashed, all while local governments face more and more and more unfunded mandates.
It would take either someone who is at least partially out of their mind (like Ruggieri) or someone who is unusually passionate about Lancaster to run for mayor. The constant pressure, criticism, and ridicule are more than enough to drive any normal person away from the job.

No matter our politics, I do hope Pete makes a full recovery. Cancer sucks.

So basically what concerned citizen is saying is if Rick Gray wasn’t gonna grace us with four more years of his legal corruption, we would not have a Democratic candidate. I find that very hard to believe. Are we running out of the same tired old boy network of old past their prime white lawyers and businessmen? Yes, this is a huge hispanic populated city. I find it extremely hard to believe that somebody of black or hispanic heritage is not willing to become mayor of our city. They pobably know the newspaper is gonna paint Goober Gray as the best mayor in American history since he protects their investments. They will likely wait until he finally blesses this city and his family and decides to do something he should be doing now and that’s retire. Rick Gray is likely the last Hoorah in this city for white men in their 60′s and 70′s deciding what ethnic majority cultures in the city should vote. Nobody wants Rick Gray besides his historic district neighbors. The minoirty should no longer continue to rule. Harrisburg was in far worse shape than Lancaster when Linda Thompson decided to run. You mean to tell me that we cannot find somebody similar willing to become Lancaster’s first Black or Hispanic mayor. I say Nonsense. We just need Gray to release his mummified old hands from the strangle hold of real democracy.

Who would run? Jose Urdaneta would, but he’s from Venezuela, and he doesn’t know how to shut up and listen to others. Carlos Graupera is totally dedicated to SACA. Norman Bristol Colon lives in Lancaster Township. Blanding Watson (head of Lancaster NAACP) might, and he would do a very good job, but he black and not Hispanic.
The other factor is the plutocracy which actually runs Lancaster from behind the scenes. Does anyone really believe that an intelligent person like Rick Gray would really support a ridiculous project like the proposed streetcars without an incredible amount of pressure on him? Gray HAD to know that the hotel and convention center would be a losing proposition for taxpayers, yet he still publicly supported it.
The single biggest obstacle to running for mayor (OR city council) is whether or not a person is approved by those who pull the strings in Lancaster City.
-
What don’t we the people have a say? If Gray doesn’t feel the projects he is proposing is right for us citizens, then why is he running at 69 years old? Why not retire and rid himself of the headache? Just because Watson is black and hispanic does not mean hispasnics won’t vote. Reading has an even higher percentage of hispanics than Lancaster and that never stopped Vaughn Spencer from being elected. Most of the people pulling the strings with these ridiculous ideas for the city don’t even live here. Rick Gray is intelligent enough to know these ideas are bad, but with many intelligent people he has an ego problem. Did you see his video on running for a third term? He had to talk about all his lifetime accomplishments as if anybody really cares. On top of that, he actually tried to make us believe he cannot walk a single block without constant praise. He told us it’s takes him 20 minutes to walk a block because all the compliments he receives. I want him gone. An overwhelming majority of residents want him gone. His own wife wants him gone. Yet, because of positive press he remains our mayor for another lackluster four years. I wonder how residents will react when we lose our firefighters. Why not cut certain salaries(Randy Patterson, Charlotte Katzenmoyor)? Why continue to spend money on surveillance cameras that neither dropped crime nor catches criminals above the 1% mark? Why not let go of these inspectors who walk around and make sure our lawns are mowed to specification and satellite dishes are not visible? Why invest money in a green program in which very little rain water is actually recycled? He will sacrifce public safety for an image. HE’S GOTTA GO!!!!!
