    ABUSES OF POWER!

We will maintain our role as a community watchdog, monitoring the use of power by those in elected office or in positions of influence over the lives of county residents. We will investigate abuses of power or position.

From “Our pledge to community,” part of today’s front page announcement of major changes at the Lancaster Newspapers and the naming of Ernie Schreiber as the “Executive Editor.” (Click here for the “Pledge” and here for the main story.)

Wow! There will be much more later today but the first test for Schreiber – will he tell the residents of Lancaster that they were duped and their Chief of Police, Keith Sadler, has a very serious history of domestic violence he kept hidden during the hiring process?
Will he? Will he tell the citizens what they have a need and right to know about a man with incredible power?
I was so startled by the actions of the Lancaster City Police that I picked up the phone and spoke to Ernie in his home several months ago. That will come later.
Wow! They’re bringing back the TV Guide!
    Please check back later today.

    1. I wonder what Sunday News Associate Editor Gil Smart will make of this? He says newspapers don’t have a duty to do anything except make money!

    2. LNP is recycling a has-been who never was. Just another continuation of the ‘good ole boy’ network who will NOT challenge the Power Elite or the status quo. VERY dissappointing, but also very much to be expected. LNP needs to be SOLD and totally NEW blood brought in!!

    3. Rednek – Schreiber called former Commissioner Molly Henderson “the angel of death” because she didn’t support his bosses’ convention center. How can anyone forget that?

    4. Becky, not because this happened to me but….there are so many who history of Domestic Violence, like Keith! The Philadelphia Police Department and Lancaster Police Department and many more; could care less what happened to me….I know more then ever I do not stand alone….You stand with me, Deon, Clara, Renee, Paula, Jeffery Kim….So many stand with me….I will continue to help others who also have been ignored.

      God bless you Becky!

    5. WOW, changes! I enjoyed reading the marital connection of Krasne to the Steinmans which is so important with business decisions (*insert eyeroll*).

“The newsroom changes come as Lancaster Newspapers conducts a national search for a new chief executive officer.” – the magic 8ball sees a wealthy, straight white male, late 40s-early 50s emerging from the pack to be the new CEO.

Nothing will change. I never received a response to any of my phone calls or emails regarding why they hired a Chief of Police with a history of domestic abuse.

My employer places a copy of the Lancaster News in the lunchroom every morning. It sits untouched, and is put in the recycling bin the next day. I have suggested they save money and cancel their subscription. When I look around the lunchroom, everyone is reading news on their phones, iPads, laptops … it is a different world from the Steinmans perspective.

    6. I’d think that Adams must be nervous as Schreiber undoes some of the changes he implemented.

    7. I think both Marv and Gil are very nervous! And I think Charles Shaw is gone! Anyone else see Shaw anywhere?

    8. His name is gone from the editorial page and the newsroom directory. Funny they didn’t mention that!

    9. What happens to Gil as Schreiber says the only editorial and opinion pieces will be on the editorial pages? Isn’t his on the front of, is it the Local section?

And does Marv continue his drivel, or does poor Abby have to get used to never seeing her name in print again.

Someone cue the theme song to As The World Turns!

    10. There are a few things to remember: If Shaw is gone, that’s something that was accomplished before they brought Ernie back on. And that Ernie has worked with Marv and Gil for quite some time – it’s not like someone new coming in. Ernie looks to be a figurehead and they even have a Steinman-by-marriage in place to do the real decision-making.

Must suck to be Marv. Editor for the Sunday News and skipped over in favor of a retired coworker being brought back on. I don’t get the idea that Gil Smart has ambitions that lean toward what Ernie is doing. I see Gil as being a frustrated long story, let’s investigate this kind of writer who is hamstrung by being stuck at the LNP. Regardless of whether you love him or loathe him, he’s much more suited for the long story forrmat that investigative weeklies do. But I think that bus has passed him by.

    11. Gil and “investigative” do not belong in the same sentence. He is a hack opinion purveyor and that’s all he’s got. His own opinion. And you know what they say about those and compare them to, which in his case is appropriate.
