  • AN HONEST PUBLIC SERVANT!

    ANGEL OF DEATH!

George C. Werner Jr., an attorney for Lancaster Newspapers, said, “Today is another banner day for freedom of the press.”
From today’s article, “Court upholds dismissal of lawsuit filed against Lancaster Newspapers,” (click here).
What a crock!  Remember Ernie Schreiber’s, the new Executive Editor of the Lancaster Newspapers, editorial calling Molly Henderson the “Angel of Death?”
Molly Henderson was actually defamed, smeared, and vilified, by a simple conspiracy of significantly vested and aligned interests, (Penn Square Partners, Lancaster Convention Center Authority, The Lancaster Redevelopment authority, The Lancaster County DA’s office, the Law firm of Stevens and Lee PC, and others) simply to stop her, as a County Commissioner (in the majority on the Convention center issue) from having any further influence on the size, scope, financing, taxes, and public guarantees, which the developers of the Lancaster Hotel and Convention Center hoped to have supported by state and local governments. They succeeded in so damaging her reputation that she was driven from public office and denied her, well earned, public esteem. The sunshine law was simply part of the darkness. (see commentary by Christiaan A. Hart Nibbrig NewsLanc June 14, 2011).
From a letter to NewsLanc.com (click here).
Henderson’s case was always going to be challenging, if not nearly impossible to make. That is as it should be. She got an early victory by having the case reviewed in Chester County, rather than Lancaster County, an implicit acknowledgment by the Court that Lancaster wasn’t going to hear the case impartially.
But Molly Henderson should have had her day in a Chester County court. It was there that she could have brought out the stacks and stacks of newspapers, the ones that wrongly and unfairly depicted her as less than what she was – an honest public servant.

It was in the volume of the biased articles, not the six or seven with obvious, overt lies, where Molly Henderson was libeled. This was new ground for the courts, evidently, and they didn’t want to touch it.
I am saddened today, not only for Molly Henderson, whom I watched and worked around every day for a long time, but for my county and country. Molly Henderson was not a good commissioner; she was a great one. She had the courage and conscience that we, as Americans, say we want in a politician. I saw this up close, from the front row.
And she was burned at the stake by her community, led by her hometown newspaper, and now by the courts. She was wronged.
I want to say, on the record, that it was an honor to work for her, and it is blessing to consider her a friend

    1. So I had started a comment on Talkback with that exact ridiculous quote from Werner, but never finished. Werner, by the way, was back in a courtroom this past Thursday billing LNP $1,000/hour while they continue to persue full release of private hotel tax returns. I don’t want to split hairs but I believe that LNP referred to Dick Shellenberger, and not Molly Henderson, as the angel of death…what I would personally refer to as the absolute lowest that they have ever gone. Don’t get me wrong, they targeted Molly and saw to it personally that she could not win reelection and her suit was 100% valid, but I am pretty sure that it was Dick that received their ultimate insult of all time.

    2. Talking, I’m quite certain it was directed at Molly Henderson! Does anyone else remember? I actually think Schreiber had to somewhat apologize for it. I’ll see if I can find it, but some items have been scrubbed from the LNP site. Everything on this site over the years says it was directed at Henderson.

    3. My recollection but I could be wrong. Certainly, the sentiments were directed at both of those Commissioners questioning of a project that was the darling of the Lancaster establishment and anything directed at one, was certainly directed at the other. How dare they question!

    4. I dug into some of my notes and am still uncertain on the exact target. I found a letter that I wrote on 5/31/05 referencing the insult that occurred “last month” leading me to believe it was printed in April or May of 2005. My letter also suggests that Dick was the target but I cannot find the editorial itself. I briefly reviewed the voluminous CC piece on NewsLanc as I am pretty sure that a reference could be found there but did not see one.

    5. I checked NewsLanc and there are a couple of references. One says it was directed at all three of them which I find doubtful because Shaub supported the CC and resigned right after the Grand Jury report, if I recall correctly. I also searched Molly Henderson’s suit but don’t see it specifically mentioned. It is, however, an excellent read – http://www.newslanc.com/document/215159Henderson_suit.pdf

Under an entry entitled Resign Schreiber, almost at the bottom of the page, see your reason #2.

    7. Wow! From my own site! Good job, Talking. It was Shellenberger.

    8. I was by no means trying to say “I told you so”. I simply was really confident that the over-the-top and wholly inappropriate, incendiary and irresponsible insult was levied at Dick. Dick was “their” guy. He was the Republican Chairman of the Board and having backed a nut job for the other red seat, the establishment needed and expected Dick to be a good boy but he was not. He was asking questions and he was working with the enemy against their CC. This was a direct effort to get Dick in line. While I was watching a 3rd game this year that the Eagles should have lost last night, I labored through about 40 pages of Google results and finally hit your archive. This in no way diminishes your point about Molly or LNP. The Republican machine could see that Dick would not even run for reelection. As for Molly, they used all weapons at their disposal to make sure she could not win reelection and LNP was their weapon #1.
