What would you do with “guns in this country.” Ban them? Making guns illegal would only make them inaccesible to those who obey laws. Use your head.

I agree, when are we going to do something about guns in this country. And while I am thinking of it, when are we going to do something about cars in this country. Cars kill more people then guns.

Guns don’t kill people, people shooting guns kill people. Having said that, I think we do need a ban on assault rifles and all high capacity clip guns, there is no need for them. and they have been used in every mass shooting since the eighties.
There was a bill proposed by Democrats banning these weapons, but like most other bills, it went nowhere.

When are we going to do something about irresponsible journalism in this country?
Would you and the San Fran Chronicle be so cavalier about limiting the First Amendment as you seem to be about limiting the Second?
Where would we stop? How about getting rid of that pesky 4th. (The TSA not withstanding) After all, why bother to get a warrant when you have a really good hunch that someone may be up to no good?
And that whole rigmarole about self- incrimination. That 5th Amendment is a real pain in the ass, isn’t it?
The Bill Of Rights is not the Government granting us anything. They are, instead, rights granted us by our Creator. They are not negotiable. Like the steel girders of a bridge, weaken one and they all will fall

CJ – In 1791 when the Second Amendment to the Constitution was adopted, I highly doubt they ever imagined assault rifles like we have today. The right to bear arms certainly was different in that day and time. While I agree we do have that right, I do not agree with individuals having assault guns.
As for the Bill of Rights being rights granted to us by our “Creator”, that’s bullshit. They were originally created for white men by white men, no blacks, no women. -

Denny,
First of all, Assault is a verb, not a noun. There is no such thing as an assault rifle, it is a term that was made-up by Hoplophobes to make something sound scary. A very good case in point is a Marlin Model60.22 rifle. It is the most popular 22 rifle ever built and has started many kids on the road to the shooting sports. It is classified as an Assault Rifle in states where such ridiculous laws exist. Google it, you will see that there is nothing scary about it.
The fact is that so-called Assault Rifles account for less than 1% of all shooting deaths in this country. The rate-of-fire argument is also invalid as a person that practices can shoot even a revolver as fast or faster than any semi automatic. Here’s 12 shots in under 3 seconds: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lLk1v5bSFPw&feature=related
Banning the weapons you don’t like is an exercise in folly, Denny. Prohibition has never worked and never will work. If you take away the weapons that you don’t like from honest, law abiding citizens, you leave them only in the hands of the dregs of Society. Criminals will always have guns, just ask the subjects of places like England, Australia, Canada, and other countries where they have disarmed the populace. Now only the bad guys have guns and the good guys are left with no way to defend against them.
What the Founders could or could not imagine is irrelevant. The right to self defense and right to keep and bear arms is not, and can not be granted by Government in a free society. Only in a Dictatorship or a Monarchy, where people are subjects as opposed to Freeman can such a phenomenon be possible.
The Founding Fathers were intelligent enough to realize that we do have certain “inalienable rights granted us by our Creator”. Don’t for a second think that you are smarter than them.

CJ
You ask what people in other countries think about being disarmed and you mentioned ENGLAND.
The English would say thank God and are 99.9% behind this law.
Yes Crims have guns in England but on the whole they use them on each other.
You can go on killing yourselves if you want to its down to you even if you don’t want to TRY to cut down the horrendous high level of gun deaths. -

Um Denny-
Are you volunteering to go door to door and disarm the law abiding. If so let me know how that turns out. As a 3rd generation combat veteran…..2 grandfathers who fought in the Pacific, one of whom recieving the Purple Heart, my father who fought in Vietnam, and me who served as a medic in Iraq…we have invested too much in blood, sweat, and tears to sit idly by and let what we fought for be taken from us. Hell most of you people don’t even give a damn about the sacrifices that have been made for your whining spoiled asses. Now you say the founders never envisioned “assault guns” so they should be banned.
OK…I bet the forefathers never envisioned hardcore pornography…which quite possibly could inspire some sicko to commit sex crimes….but if we move to ban in….it’s CENSORSHIP…the media abuses the freedom of the press by trying for the most part, to push leftist and often anti-American drivel…That should be ended too then…
Do I need to go on ???? The stupidity and hypocrisy of the hoplophobe and the liberal nauseate me.
With regards
Me
